Driving home from work on Monday at freeway speed and heard a thud sound. Pretty sure I didn't ran anything over and after about another 2-3 mins the sound got louder and eventually the tpms came on and I was able to pull off the freeway.

Now waiting on the side of the road for the tow truck to tow it back to my dealership.

I remember there was a similar case with another poster here. Just wondering if there are other cases to other poster as well?

Not what I had in mind for a Monday night...

I had a screw in my rear driver's side tire and it had to be replaced (dealership said unrepairable). Since the car's tires do not have a default warranty on them (at least it was not provided to me when purchased), and the new tire does, I have one tire with a warranty and three that do not have any warranty. Very comforting when driving in Houston which has a lot of very dirty roads and highways.

Random events sometimes aren't very kind! Too bad you had to deal with way more than your share!
VW does offer a tire and wheel warranty. It’s about 850 bucks, cover any damage to tires, wheels and any small door dings your car may get. Like any warranty, weigh your options then decide if it’s right for you. We bought it and have used it for the wheel repair, my wife can’t seem to judge where the parking curbs are 😂. On our Tiguan we had it and ended up having 3 tires replaced because of screws or nails. We are just unlucky with tires.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to contact my dealer to ask about this. When I had my tire replaced they were surprised it didn't come standard, but it was never presented to me as an option so I assumed it was something not available to this vehicle (being so new and all). As a general rule I usually pass on extended/extra warranties since they mostly never get used, but I am liking the idea of this one since road hazards are fairly common for where I drive.

We are the same way, we generally don’t buy extended warranties. We found for us this tire and wheel warranty has worked out for our past Tiguan and now this ID.4, but they are not for everyone, check it out weigh the options and decide if it’s for you 😎

That's an unusual omission on your dealers part - They usually try to sell you every extra cost option they can because their profit margin on them is very high. When I bought mine, I had to decline 4 or 5 different extended warranties of one sort or another, including the tire warranty, which I didn't give a second though to because I thought I could buy a whole new set of tires for less than the warranty cost (turns out not so) but anyway, I did have to sign a form declining all the extra warranties they presented me with, so it seems odd that your selling dealer didn't try to upsell you on all of those - They usually do

Yeah, I was surprised as well. They didn't actually try to sell me any warranty for the car at all when I bought it. I was just relieved I didn't have to decline a bunch of attempts, but now I wish they had offered me that one. I had never heard of a warranty like this (I have bought many cars before and never have been presented with one specifically for the tires), and might have given it consideration. (Most likely though, I would have declined it on instinct unfortunately.) Maybe it is a state of TX thing, or a Houston thing? Dunno.

Quick update on my situation. Call VW roadside assistance by looking up the number online from my phone since the ID4 is the only car that probably does not have a roadside assistance button inside the car. Took a while and found the number The rep was very friendly and he told me my tow to the dealer would be covered in the roadside assistance warranty. Nice.

Got a call from the dealer today after towing the car last night and I asked the rep if the tire is covered under warranty. She told me only if there is no evidence that I ran something over. She called me back after the tech inspected and said that the tire looked like it was punctured by a nail but probably flew out. I asked for them to take pictures for my reference.

Turns out, if I didn't hear it incorrectly, the total replacement of the tire and labor will be $269. I was thinking that it should be a lot higher. Will be picking up my car tomorrow. Fast turn around I would say.

I went to Discount tire for my F150 and had to have a tire replaced. I was able to add the road hazard on the other tires at that time. It was very reasonable, but that was probably 3+ years ago and a lot of things have changed now. They used to fix flats free, not so much any more.

I usually don't get extended warranties. However, we decided to get the tire warranty as a part of a package but used a super low 3rd party loan rate as a bargaining chip. They lowered the rate and we got the warranty. So while it did cost us more it wasn't on top of the ridiculous interest rate they initially quoted. They got some profit and we got something that might benefit us. I considered it a win-win for both us and the dealer.

So they’re saying it’d be covered under warranty if there’s no evidence, and the tech says there’s no evidence but he thinks you ran something over? Sounds like you have a good case for coverage…

Silly question which you may or may not have the answer to... Is this extra tire & wheel warranty usable at any VW dealer or is the agreement that you have to have the service done at the originating location? We'll be getting our car about 60miles out of town in a few weeks and trying to figure out what would make sense for us.

I'm trying to think up a scenario of how a hole gets in a tire without it being punctured–by something. o_O I imagine the agent was trying to say that the tire is warranted against manufacturing defects.

Yeah, I know and agree. It sounded odd though. But also, nail punctures are almost always and easy patch. Unless it got ejected through a sidewall somehow.
