Apparently, after the $1500 price hike.
My assumption is that all already produced cars which are not assigned in the reservation system will go to dealers for dealer inventory. It will help VW to clear the reservation list because people will jump on those cars and at the same time allow dealers to make their own pricing. Two birds with one stone. Everyone left in the reservation queue will get a car produced after Jan-04 and will potentially have to wait even longer. Just to force you to use the dealer inventory with markup MSRP.

Why does this idea make sense? The interview with VW stated that the reservation system will be locked for new reservations because they expect plenty of inventory to be available at the dealer.

The way I describe fits that's model and they do not run into problems where locked reservation holders will get an already produced car which likely causes legal action.

My wife and I gave up on getting our reserved Arctic Blue RWD Pro S. Found a Tourmaline Blue with same Cosmic interior in Portsmouth, NH and canceled our reservation for the Arctic Blue. I was going to keep the reservation so my local dealer would have it to sell, but he said to cancel it because they didn't think they would be able to sell it. In central Maine it looks like demand is dropping. Is it dropping elsewhere?

I have yet to see any source that has one besides the pre-production model they showed back in August. Glad I gave up on it when I did.

What's extra frustrating is on all the online ads I see for the ID.4 it's almost always Arctic Blue.

We’ve not given up on it yet… when I showed the other options to my wife her reaction was I’ll wait. So still status 5 with a Jan-Jun window.

I had the same reaction about the ads. Why are they almost all arctic blue if they are not producing them, unless they are all German sourced?

We haven't given up either, but as soon as I find a AWD model at a dealer I trust, we are jumping on it. We may end up wrapping it if we really don't like the color.

I hadn't thought about the adds but you are right! If they are really having a problem getting the Blue tints, I don't understand why they don't give us the option of changing color.

Update! I just received and email that our tourmaline blue is on the assembly line! Hopefully the blue tint gets passed on to the arctic blue too.
