Yes, this has happened to me several times. I ended up getting a case for the key fob that covers up that button, but I wish I could just disable it. Or VW could take a clue from every other fob out there and recess the button to prevent this issue.
Is needing a panic button while the car is moving a legitimate use case for this? I'm really surprised they would allow it in the programming. Is that a fob in your pocket or ....
Yes, disconcerting when this happens. In one of the VW videos they show a place in the console to store the fob but I too prefer to keep it on me.
Obviously a situation where the fob designer was going more for smooth aesthetics and didn't consult the human factors engineer?
When I first read this I thought, well I can open mine. I found out I can't!I can't open my Toyota's trunk with the fob while the car is running.
Hmm, do you mean that space in the cupholder? VW really should have made another dedicated space for the key fob...Is that a fob in your pocket or ....

Then isn’t it the same as putting a key in the ignition? One doesn’t have to use it but having a dedicated fob holder would seem counter intuitive to how fobs are used in many case. My current vehicle is keyless and the fob stays in my pockets for the moment I walk out the door till I come back In most cases. Then again the fobs I have aren’t pocket dialling…Hmm, do you mean that space in the cupholder? VW really should have made another dedicated space for the key fob...
As part of the extended warranty pitch from my dealer (that I declined) they claimed these keys are like $800US to replace. So... you firstcan always crack open the key and disable the alarm button?
Got a link to the case?Yes, this has happened to me several times. I ended up getting a case for the key fob that covers up that button
Ha. I'm sure they warned you about the extremely high maintenance cost of EVs, too!As part of the extended warranty pitch from my dealer (that I declined) they claimed these keys are like $800US to replace. So... you first.
i have the luck of owning a European one, so i don't have the stupid alarm buttonAs part of the extended warranty pitch from my dealer (that I declined) they claimed these keys are like $800US to replace. So... you first.
See this post from LittleJoe in another thread. I don't really like shopping at AliExpress but I couldn't find quite the same thing anywhere else - most other cases are soft and won't prevent accidental activation.Got a link to the case?
I am using this on my ID.4 key FOB. Have not set off the alarm since. Amazon.com: kwmobile Key Cover Compatible with VW Golf 8 - Black: Automotive
