What's your #1 ID.4 Complaint?

For those that have overall enjoyed owning their ID.4s, is there anything that you'd consider a stand out complaint to your car? Is it something small or is it a big deal you wished was taken care of? This can extend to the ID.3 as well for any European members.

With the caveat that I've only had my 2023 ID.4 for 2 weeks and I'm still getting used to it, here's what bugs me:

1. The climate control. Having to go through an extra step just to change the fan speed (as opposed to just turning a knob) is annoying. I knew this going in, but I still don't understand what the VW folks were thinking.

2. The brakes. This could be just me getting used to a new car that drives differently than my former car (a 2012 Tiguan), but the brakes are very spongey, and that extra pressure you have to give them to come to a full stop is disconcerting.

3. This may just be my car, but I find Sirius/XM cuts out a lot, even if for very brief moments. Much more so than in my wife's Subaru.

All this being said, I do like the ID.4 and I'm happy I made the switch to an EV.

As many folks here have discovered, trying to understand what VW was thinking is futile. But many of us have also discovered that if you just set Climate Control to Auto, and change cabin temperature with the little slider on the bottom of the screen, you can forget about all the rest.

2. The brakes. This could be just me getting used to a new car that drives differently than my former car (a 2012 Tiguan), but the brakes are very spongey, and that extra pressure you have to give them to come to a full stop is disconcerting.
Are you driving in D mode or B? It's worth retraining your right foot to control both acceleration and deceleration. The ID.4 doesn't have full one-pedal driving, but to me that's a feature, not a bug. I rarely use the brakes except when coming to a full stop or avoiding inattentive drivers.

3. This may just be my car, but I find Sirius/XM cuts out a lot, even if for very brief moments. Much more so than in my wife's Subaru.
Can't help you there. To my knowledge, our ID.4 has never been off NPR.

All this being said, I do like the ID.4 and I'm happy I made the switch to an EV.

The charging light scheme in the US is different.
  • No light - Charging has ended some time ago (solid green eventually turns off), cable can still be attached. Whether it's locked or not depends on if the setting for always unlock when charging ends is enabled or not.
I should actually check this one myself. I always have the key on me when I go behind the car, so it could be that it turns off but I see the it on because I wake up the car.

  • Blinking green - Car is actively charging or pulling power, cable is locked.
Really? That would be annoying in dark. I absolutely hate the blinking for "waiting for scheduled" and am happy that I rarely if ever use it.
