I know I've seen lots of posts of different ID4s with aftermarket or OE wheels, but maybe we can centralize that as a resource for everyone to refer to what may or may not fit?

Another issue that seems to get brought up is load ratings and wheel composition.

I've got the 19" Hamar wheels, and have been looking at a couple Rotiform options (19" vs 20") both with 1600 LB capacity per wheel. And both 8.5," wide with a 35ET. I believe I've seen others with a similar setup?

Also, if you're going to post, please post pictures and specs.

I'm waiting for my 10k service to talk to my dealer about installing the H&R lowering springs.

Not really all that many owners/members have, as yet, opted for aftermarket wheels. Perhaps down the road apiece if it becomes more of a thing (which in automotive forums it always does).

For now this "modifications" section, and your now stickied thread, should suffice. Thanks and again we'll likely consider further forum structuring at a point.

I'm a really big fan of the 20" Drammen wheels, but like you said, the car is so new, and in Canada, we have way less cars up here so it's harder to get OE wheels than aftermarket.

This is the rim that the guy on our street has been using with Michelin cc2 and squared off tires and says it all works great without any loss but very much more comfortable than the original 20" setup ,rims are Touren TR75

Really like the Rotiform LHR-M OP. Reminds me of the old school BBS mesh wheels that I'd love to get if they fit.

let me know if you find out anything. I was going to purchase the Rotiform LAS-R 20x8.5 or the 20x10 they come in +35 or +40. According to wheeloffset calculator if i get 20x10 +35 i'll have 9mm less of inner wheel clearance. i hope thats enough clearance to not hit any brakes

Pulled the trigger.

Rotiform LHR-M
19"x8.5" et 35
Should only be 1mm poke when compared to 20"x 9" Drammen wheels.
1600lb wheel load

Hoping to mount the tires in the next few weeks and update the thread about fitment and ride

Sweet! Can't wait to see photos from you guys. I'm curious why you went with 19x8.5s? I'm thinking a 20x9 square setup for myself. Just need to dial in offset for a flush fit.

for me its because i want to use the rotiform aerodiscs with the wheels, and the aerodiscs dont come in 20". also i personally think 20" oems ride a bit harsh compared to what i'm used to, so a 19" might give me a little more cushion

Cost, efficiency and comfort.

The LHR-M don't come in 20, unless I get a custom order, which would not be in my budget.

19s seem to have greater selection and a slight cost saving over 20.

Comfort/more tire cushion. I do alot of highway and city driving, and I've been driving it with 19" winters so far and have been really happy with the it all, so I didn't want to ruin a good thing

I would have gone with Atlas 21" Braeselton wheels if I wanted the bigger wheel look. They look amazing on ID4s.

Has anyone with aftermarket wheels given any thought to the wheel bolts they'll be using?

Most aftermarket wheels use conical bolts vs OEM uses ball seat bolts. Where it get's tricky is that VW equips the ID4 with "two piece" wheel bolts. Meaning there's a washer between the bolt and the wheel. They outline in the owners manual that two piece wheel bolts must be used...

Factory wheel bolt:

Theoretically, the advantage of using wheel bolts with washers is that is provides a more accurate torquing application and avoids damage to the wheel surface over time. I can see this being very important with the weight of vehicle and the size of the wheels.

My previous vehicles were much lighter, and with smaller wheels (mk2 GTI and B6 A4) and I never had to give any thought to vehicle load and wheel bolt requirements. I noticed that my wife's Q5 also has this style of factory two piece bolt.

I've ordered conical bolts with washers after alot of searching as they're harder to find.

I tend to overthink alot of things, and I'm hoping that this is one of those instances where I'm right and it's worth the peace of mind.

wow I didn't know this was a thing.. I hope someone can chime in because I am literally about to bolt some standard conical bolts onto the rotiforms on Tuesday
This video is probably the best explanation I've seen:

And another link I found:

Based on everything I've been able to find I've noticed that Audi/VW/Porsche use 2 piece wheel bolts on all their heavy cars (Q5,Q7,Cayenne, etc). The benefits are that you get a truer tightening torque because the washer allows the the bolt to tighten while the washer clamps. This also keeps the wheel from getting galled/scraped by the bolt so it's aesthetic, but perhaps beneficial to the wheel bolt hole integrity over time. They also say that.one piece still get the job done.

If it was a serious concern, I would see more aftermarket companies making it available...

But, I also don't want to find out. So I personally got the two piece bolts. Unfortunately I got them after I had already purchased one piece bolts.

Mcgard sells a set with locks and they can be had next day with Amazon.

are you in Canada? the link took me to Amazon Canada and they cost $200 from there. but I think I found the same item in Amazon US for $98. thanks for all the info, I think I will order these too:

EDIT: the only thing is i think they only come in the default 28mm shank size. I was planning on purchasing some spacers in the future, and i cant find them making any other size other than the 28mm. i wish they sold them in singles just like the way H&R does with their bolts (which are not 2 piece ofcourse). after watching the videos you posted it does seem like the one piece should be fine. Maybe longetivity on the bolts won't be as good, but i could always replace the bolts more easily.

I'm curious about wider tires. The "hand behind tire" test suggests that there is no hope in the front, but maybe a 265 would fit in the rear?

Yea I am in Canada, and not many options for longer bolts when it comes to two piece. But I think you'll be fine like you said.

Hey Audiwagen,

I know this is an older post, but did you ever finish installing the Rotoforms, lower the car, etc?
Would love to see pics and feedback ;-)

I'm considering just doing stock "Electra" wheels in black, with 12mm spacers and a mild drop. I wasn't aware they were doing 2 piece bolts, glad I found this post.

I did a quick Photoshop to see what it would look like, I also did the roof and mirror caps in black.
This is not my car, but I have the same color and specs.

Thanks,

Brady
