VW is using Microsoft Azure, MSFT MCVP and Cariad MSFT is using TomTom as map provider. Who provides the maps for the ID4 and will send the updates OTA? TomTom, HERE, Cariad in house maps or another party?
see deal MSFT with TomTomVW ID series uses Here Maps.
thanks, but traffic info and updates are not the same as the map updates. TomTom is de world leader in Traffic Info. Because MSFT is using TomTom en VW is using MSFT MCVP and Azure I assume VW is using TomTom as well. But VW has a stake in HERE like Audi Daimler and BMW.As a VW ID4 1st edition owner ( California, San Jose ) with several difficulties with my onboard system I can tell you it’s Tomtom. On the 21st of september I received after help of my local dealer new updates from Tomtom if I remember correctly Traffic Index.
Hope my information and experiences are useful for you. My dealer is Capitol VW 911-A Capitol Expressway Auto Mall • San Jose, CA 95136
The use of Microsoft explains why the ID.4 software is so flaky. Sadly, based on 30+ years on the software industry, it probably means it's unfixable.see deal MSFT with TomTom

Microsoft partners with TomTom to take on HERE and AWS partnership (updated) - MSPoweruser
Back in 2016, TomTom first announced a partnership with Microsoft to bring enterprise-grade location-based services to Azure, based on TomTom’s maps, traffic and navigation software. Last year, Amazon AWS and HERE location platform announced a major partnership to offer developers access to an...www.google.nl

clarifies that I think VW will switch from HERE to TomTom
Mr Ron, I am obviously not as well informed as you are. My recently purchased ID4 has for as I know Tomtom traffic navigation. Because of the recent problems with my system I invested a little about the Tomtom company.thanks, but traffic info and updates are not the same as the map updates. Tomtom is in my eyes known for there mobile devices but surprised to see they also have in car software.
Coming week I again visit my dealer and will ask a printout from the car system specs.
You triggered my curiosity about the system used in my car.
Are you connected to the Tomtom company? Sorry to ask mr Ron as I noticed your from the same country as Tomtom company.
Mr Ron thank you for drawing my attention to the stock of Tomtom. I invested pretty big in Workhorse group inc but that’s quite a newbie compare to Tomtom.Indeed, I’m from the Netherlands, but not working for TomTom. I’m an investor in TomTom stocks on the Dutch stock exchange and interested in electric verhicles and self driving cars in general. Because the communication (IR) of TomTom is very bad, I try to find out if TomTom is taking over market share of HERE. If VW will switch from HERE to VW for the (OTA) HD maps and their ADAS the revenue of TomTom will increase, also the price of TomTom’s stocks,
Everyone knows TomTom from the PND on the front window of their cars. But TomTom has a 60% market share for HD-map’s which can be pushed over the air to the connected verhicles. Like I said, MSFT Azure is using TomTom as wel in their services and API’s, also Microsoft MCVP. Both are used by VW coming years. So I tried to make the puzzle before VW and TomTom announce that TomTom is providing the HD Maps for the VW ID-family in Europe and US. ;-)
Microsoft has come a looong way the last few years. Their services are on par, if not better than most competitors within cloud infrastructure and computing. The use of Microsoft explains why the ID.4 software is so flaky. Sadly, based on 30+ years on the software industry, it probably means it's unfixable.
Tom2 is hard to find, founders of TomTom own almost 50% of the shares. Stellantis (former FCA and PSA) are also using TomTom in car maps for all their UConnect5 and ADAS, same as Kia and Hyundai.Mr Ron thank you for drawing my attention to the stock of Tomtom. Might you can look into that stock as well as your interested in electric verhicles and self driving cars.
After deepen myself into the Tomtom company you could be right that Tomtom is an unknown gem and obviously an underrated stock. Can you imagine supplying maps for MSFT, Apple, Huawei and many others.
The stock is just extremely hard to find and unknown here in the United States.
I switched half of my Workhorse stock to Tomtom thanks again for the eye opener.
As a stock holder you might noticed my transaction because my broker had difficulties finishing my order but succeeded to buy 32k stocks of TOM2.
Is there a forum to get updated on the stock of tomtom I checked on Yahoo finance but the latest update there is 3 weeks ago.
I find it very interesting that the latest ID OS app, We Charge, is using Google Maps so clearly VAG has rethought its approach to a certain extent.thanks, but traffic info and updates are not the same as the map updates. There is a Dutch forum of Tom2, maybe it’s time to open a Tom2 forum in Reddit. I bet the price of the shares will increase if other investors know more about Tom2 and their role in autonomous driving.
