I have a wireless charge capable phone and when placed on the charging spot shows charging, but the phone only gets warm or almost hot and does not charge at all, I though it was the case (otter box) but even with the case removed it didn't charge.

Anyone with the same symptoms?

Phone is a Galaxy S10, it charged properly (sans case) on my previous vehicle.

It only charges at 5W... and if the phone is being used for anything like Android Auto, it probably isn't enough to even hold the state of charge on the phone.

As well discussed elsewhere, most of our phones get so hot using the charging mat that we get "do not use until cooled down" phone alerts. I and many therefore don't bother with this over-heated and under-charge rate "convenience" and rather go with a USB-C wired connection.

I find the wired connection better for CarPlay, etc. anyway.

It would be really nice if the charge mat worked more effectively, but until it does ... 🚫

Yes, on my previous vehicle, AA worked flawlessly once i got a good quality USB-C connector, magnetic in my case that allowed me to connect and disconnect the phone without stressing the connector, several cables make it easier to charge at the office or at home.

Just need to start using the cable and forget the charging pad. Is there an easy way to disable the pad? it a nice spot for the phone anyway.

Thanks,
Fred

When you remove the rubber pad it looks like there are two tabs you can slide a screwdriver under to remove the charging pad. Maybe there's a harness that can be disconnected underneath. I've been wanting to check it out for a while now.

I'm also wondering if the heat is less of a problem with the rubber pad removed. I have a 5w charging pad at home that barely warms up my phone, but the phone sits very close to it with nothing in between.

Some folks have simply inserted a piece of cardboard under the rubber mat to EM isolate. I wouldn't want to remove/disable the charging element itself since its operation may be improved in the future(?) - but will revisit and disable if no improvement.
Personally my phone is often in a belt holster and I just place it clip side down which is enough air gap distance to block charging.

I did this exact thing. The tabs are on the driver's side. Unclipped the tabs and the charger rotated up and out. Unplugged it, secured the plug with some duct tape to prevent a possible rattle, and clipped the charger back into place.
Will use a USB-C cable to charge the phone.
