Looks like a lease return - Possibly a scam of some sort to claim the $7,500 and then hope to sell it for nearly the new price to someone who couldn't claim the tax credit anyway??

I'm always thinking the best of people in these situations :ROFLMAO:

There is no scam...on lease it will apply as cash down and VW will take tax credit.
. . . . and then they sell the car with 700 miles on it for $1K or $2K off MSRP to someone who doesn't need the tax credit and VW (or the dealer) makes an extra ~ $6K on the sale of that car. Sorry, but that sounds kinda scammy to me

I've seen several similar 'used cars' with very few miles on them (with the tax credit already taken) for sale when I was hunting for my car

It is buyers responsibility to figure out what they should pay for used car.
In some states with all discounts on EV people see in excess of 10k if they do flipping quickly....it is American law loopholes that people taking advantage of.
I do agree completely with you on this.
If you buying used car that was bought from auction in this type of states....just drop the ball and offer 10k below what they trying to sell for .
Research and knowledge are important on used market when you are buying it.
Especially YouTube people who will use EV as business asset and write it off on taxes.
Then offer lottery prizes for happy subscriber to get it then flip it one more time..... because they donated actuall EV and report losses on the taxes.
Remember i have learned very quickly living in US for less than a year.....there is no such thing as free lunch...even free things are money to party that give it to someone...and don't let me start talking about shell companies and flipping money through donation organizations that are 99% of time shell companies to wash money and getting away from liability to pay taxes on. And media that makes this type of organizations look so good to be true ( but is nothing more than using loopholes in the system to pay very little money for taxes)

But this one was supposedly a lease - No private party bought it to take the tax credit and flip it for profit. The only people who stand to gain from this one are VW and possibly the dealer. That's why I remain suspicious as to what's happening here and I saw several very similar cars when I was looking for mine. They were asking near MSRP for a car with very few miles, but the tax credit had already been used and I thought "Why would anyone want to buy this car at that price with no $7,500 tax credit when they could buy a brand new one and save the $7,500?" - Is this the way they're disposing of dealer demos?

Yes if they can get away with people who don't have clue....Back in the days Tesla buyers did this also and even today used car dealers trying to mask this money taken by first owner and ask more than Tesla is actually worth. Example Colorado residents can easily write of 10k+ with all deductions on buying EV . so even after 2 years of use they are even or still make more money than what initially cost them after deductions.
In US there is so many loopholes for business owners that are not available to normal working class.
Example lease car on the business and depreciate entire cost of lease as expense on the business or if you travel a lot for business related trips was 58 cents per mile in 2019 ( example 100 000 miles traveled will give 58 000 dollars break as expense to avoid paying taxes on).
So be very careful when buying lease returns. ...car rental lease returns. ...fleet rental returns....they are money Cows for making profit over each unit sold to unaware buyers.
And to mention big fleets that buying or leasing 5000-10 000+ units at the time will get so big discounts that after 3 years of use will still make same profit that they paid for ( add lease expense write off or per mile write off) and easily see even more advantages.

700 miles on the odometer. It's possible they just didn't like it.
Or as mentioned above… faulty coolant pump error.

Somebody on FB mentioned they sold their FE for $43K recently. I guess the ID.4 depreciation is only $3K below MSRP even with the tax credit. IMO the chip shortage will get worse in the next quarter or two.
