So I see that my dealer has yet to screw anything into the bumper. I have seen the solution one member came up with and is selling on Etsy and it does look good.

I was wondering two things though.

1) Is a proper solution/ bracket/ OEM piece available for ID.4s in the EU - If so does anyone have a link/ part number, or do people worldwide have their bumpers attached?

2) What do those two Torx screws hold/ attach too? I am wondering about the safety and ease of taking them out and screwing them back in.

I am tempted to get the Etsy solution, and I am also contemplating getting longer Torx screws and using it to screw through a cheap license plate frame/holder, followed by a tube (spacer) that way a frame would be tightly installed with no new holes drilled.

If that idea is not clear I could try to draw a picture.

If anyone can chime in with info on these two bolts, what they do/ hold/ etc it would be helpful.

Thank you!

If you look really close at the back bumper before a plate is attached, you will see two dimples. According to my dealer these are to locate the mounting for the euro plates. I do not think there is any bracket.

The Etsy mounting posts come with there own stainless steel mounting screws. You can use a license plate frame that the plate will slide into or the bottom of the plate will slide into a bottom channel of a plate frame. The Etsy solution only allows for securing the upper part of the plate.

The supplied front plate frame is much worse since there are already four holes drilled into the bumper cover to support plastic compression fittings used to support the plate frame. The bottom two holes of the front plate can be mounted in you use short enough screws so you don’t dig into the bumper cover with two more holes. If you want to use the upper plate mounting holes, the plate frame is not thick enough to prevent from screwing into the bumper cover.

VW should have come up with better plate frames to reduce hole drilling into both front and rear bumper covers.

Thanks for the info everyone.

So if there is no EU solution that we just did not get in the US along with better sound system, headlights, tail lights, Hud, happiness, etc.... then my original question still stands. What are those torx bolts in that recessed portion of the back of the rear bumper holding together? Is it safe to remove those two bolts and reinstall them? Will my bumper fall or will things slide out of place when I undo them.

I know I am being a worry wart but I like to dot my "i"s and cross my "t"s before I do anything.

Thank you!

Something to be aware of is that using one of the no-drill back license plate brackets makes the plate extend a bit further from the back of the car probably getting into the view of the rear backup camera even more. Definitely not the end of the world, but it could increase the issues you have with the dark backup camera as discussed here in this thread: Backup Camera DARK at Night. But that's a small price to pay for avoiding those holes drilled in your bumper facia--I wish I knew in time to avoid the dreaded dealer drill.

One of the testers (thanks @Pfrancis24) for my camera hood has the no-drill bracket above and that's when we noticed the issue. He doesn't even have to put his backup camera into wide mode to see his plate in the display. I increased the aggressiveness of the bottom-facing hood in order to block as much as the plate as possible without blocking the view of the road surface.

I like the way they do it in Monaco. They have small license plates that international visitors seem to think are collectors items, so when you go in to get a new tag, they pop rivet it to the car with 4 rivets. Helps keep the honest people honest I suppose . . . . you'd need a drill to steal a license plate

Ugg, I was actually checking out your hood too. So this no drill "solution" is to big making my backup camera worse and your solution to night viewing not work either! Oh no!

No, I was trying to say the opposite. I modified the hood to shield more plate. I think they will work well together.

You made both? That's amazing! Is there a combo deal?

I saw different store names so I did not know.

I checked out your listing pics too. Which ones were taken withthe license plate bracket installed... or were they all taken with the bracket installed.

I'm asking because I know you said it makes the plate sick out a bit which blocks the camera view a bit.

also, any chance of other colorsto matchother car exteriors, or is the camera cover notreally visible so it doesnot matter?

And thank you!
