Had mine replaced by myself first before recall came out. Then VW still replaced them again under recall. As I am not an average user I have a feeling door handles will go bad again within next year...
Any ideas if VW would still replace them free of charge??? Because that would be super.

Well since you didn't provide a year and mileage then it is hard to say.
Only you know how much warranty you have left.

 

My car is WAY out of warranty at 206k miles.
My door handles were done at a out 140k under recall so I don't think it matters on recalls.

 

Yes, they should. A recall repair is guaranteed, so if the new recall handles fail, VW is obligated to fix them. Just contact the dealership.

 

That would be awesome. When I took my old door handle apart, it seemed that little rubber bit cracked open and allowed moisture which rotted away microswitch buttons. Doubt simply replacing handles will solve that. Pretty sure mine are soon going to be do for replacement again
