Now to see the first one of these go OTA!

Thanks for the good data. Only difference I saw is that your C0. Actuator for exterior noise (UDS) Software version: 0010 is higher than this one, but diff. hardware too: 00C0 Actuator for exterior noise 11K035335F 0008

This confirms that our 3.5 you got is the same as EU 3.7 which is where I got that list of software versions I edited into the OP. Edit: its good news that the US is finally getting the fixes that have been out in the EU 3.7 for a while.

Probably not relevant, but EU 3.7 OTA is listed as 3.5.4 in the OTA information.

There’s a small follow up (takes 20 minutes where as the big ”3.7 OTA” took 3-4 hours depending on your car) that is 3.5.5, after which the display will still show ”3.7”. It was found before Christmas and is now popping up on the regular.

Curiously, I’m like 90 % sure that if one got the 3.7 at a dealer (as a fix for certain issues), that was listed as 3.6.2. Yet VW claims that both OTA and in-shop 3.7 updates are the same.
Why are version numbers so hard? ;)

I am confused.
So in Europe, 3.5.5 happens AFTER 3.7 OTA?
And before the 3.5.5 follow up, 3.7 OTA updated cars don't show/display 3.7?

No we don't get that app in the US.
Yes we do — it’s the ID.Software app (or whatever it’s called) and it just shows 3.1 even though I’m on 3.2…

I think it mostly looks right. A few differences than what's posted in the original post, but different hardware versions too.

The only one that concerns me is 008C (Battery management system). That one seems stuck at an older software version of 1030.

There were previous posts in this thread showing that the 2021 and 2022 ID.4s got updated to BMS version 1041 after some of the 3.2.x updates. Another 2023 ID.4 dump prior to any updates showed BMS at 1030, and a few wondered if the 2023s (with SK On batteries) would eventually be updated too. Well, it seems the answer is no.

What I'd really be interested in is seeing a dump from a 2023 with a later build date, one that came with software 3.5 from the factory. I'd like to see if the BMS software is 1030, or something else.

The 2023 cars seem like they’re being orphaned, or maybe VW will get to them eventually?

For what it’s worth, 3.8 is rolling out in waves in Europe. Reports of install are popping up (no bricks that I’ve seen), so it’s getting wider (the waves are to include more and more cars as it progresses).

So it will most likely arrive in the US after a delay. Early 2026, maybe?

Just fixes and optimization. I wouldn’t expect any new features for old 3.x.

Sure, Skoda made an in-car app to check your battery temperature on their own. It doesn’t do anything but display it, so whatever the point..

📢 New software update

Dear community, from next week, we plan to start the rollout of the ID. Software 3.8.1 update.

Independently of this, we are currently preparing a fix for a problem that can reduce AC charging power. Further information on this topic will follow soon. đź‘€

The following content is included in the ID. Software 3.8.1 update:

- Updated the integrated internet connection: To take into account the gradual shutdown of 2G/3G mobile networks from the end of 2025, the internet connection will be updated. This update is necessary in order to continue using the We Connect mobile online services. Without this update, there may be quality restrictions and possible functional failures. The availability of 2G/3G mobile networks is defined by the network operators of each country and may vary.

- Important security updates: We have implemented important security updates to ensure the IT security of your vehicle. We strongly recommend that you perform this update.

- Web radio and infotainment system: Optimizations have been made to improve the stability of the web radio and the infotainment system.

- Air conditioning: Fixed a bug that could have caused the coolant filling level to be displayed incorrectly.

As usual, the update will be rolled out in the form of a so-called canary release. This means that we will start the first wave with a small number of vehicles at first. Subsequent waves are then launched with an ever-increasing number of vehicles. This gives us the opportunity to react quickly in the event of unforeseen problems in the process.

The updates are downloaded in the background when you are connected, provided you have given consent in your profile. As soon as the download is complete, a message will appear in the infotainment display and you can start the update at any time from the Goodbye screen.

You can find more information about our software updates here:—

Many people have been asking how to see what software versions they really have, since the infotainment only tells you its 3.1, even after a 3.2.1 or 11 or 12 update. With car scanner the trick to read all the ECUs: Hit ECU Identifiers, hit the button for All modules (not just Found modules), then the checkbox up top that adds a check mark to all ECU. This will scan 198 ECU including a few that don't exist but not a problem. Then hit Export to email yourself the report. The car must be powered up but does not need to be in Drive. With OBDeleven you hit the Scan button, wait a long time for it to finish then hit the email button (top right) to send the report to yourself to see the software version of every ECU. I did this with my original 2.1, then again with 3.1, then with 3.2.11. Note some of these will be different with different hardware like RWD vs. AWD. The below tables list the versions from the VW docs. This looks like those who got the 3.2.1 (97HB or 97HC) match up with my 3.2.11. You can see they are slowly getting us 21 and 22 to the same versions. It would be interesting to see a 23 scan.
(After posting, I realized that my situation is pretty much the same as Antonio above. Plus my dealer's intransigence.)
I wonder if anyone will have an idea why I might have a different version on a couple of these. I am trying to confirm that 919A was completed OTA, because my dealer says it was not (and won't replace the door handles without redoing it, meaning we'd have to leave the car for "2 to 3 days" instead of a single workday for the handles).

When I run a report with Veepeak and Car Scanner BLE+, I find that almost everything is the same as SunWizard's "Recall 919A" list above. But there are some discrepancies:
  • Unconcerning - Some lines don't show up, but mostly in places where the NHTSA bulletin lists them as having the same function and software version as a line that does show up.
  • Somewhat concerning - the very first line SunWizard mentions doesn't show up in my report - C002 "Software Cluster Embedded";
    • is that because my app, or my dongle, doesn't look for this?
  • More concerning - 008C - Battery Energy Module is still on 1030 instead of 1041, and the "part #" is 0Z1915184G instead of 0Z1915184J (that is, G instead of J)
  • Less concerning- 006C - Rear View Camera; mine is at 0397, vs. SunWizard's listed 0314.
    • I'm assuming that means I have a higher software version?
So basically, there are two modules that have different software versions than shown on SunWizard's list, and several that are simply not shown (though usually in settings where it's clear that the software version would be correct if it were shown.) The two discrepant software versions seem unlikely to affect the door handle replacement, and I find it hard to believe they truly represent problems with the OTA, since everything else is updated.

I kind of wonder whether those two lines are different because I have a late 2023. Except that the NHTSA bulletin "Appendix A - Software Table" shows all software numbers matching SunWizard's, and I'm not sure why they wouldn't list mine as alternates if mine are valid.

Thanks @Lincoln , I was waiting for someone else with a 2023 ID.4 Pro S AWD to confirm their 008C code level after the update.
Looks like yours also remained at version 1030.

The 2021/2022 ID.4s had 008C updated to version 1041 as part of the 3.2.x updates (97HB and 97ZZ). The later production 2023s came with software 3.5.x already installed. The early production 2023s did not, and they never got any of the 3.2.x updates like the 2021/2022 cars did.

I think the 3.5.x update (919A) didn't include the 008C upgrade because it had already been previously done in the 3.2.x updates. But VW neglected to take into account that the early production 2023s never got the 3.2.x updates. And so even after the 3.5.x update, the early production 2023s remain at an old BMS code level.

What we need now is someone with a 2023 ID.4 that came with software 3.5.x from the factory to do a dump and see what their BMS level is. I suspect it will be 1041. In summary, this is what I'm thinking:

2021/2022 ID.4s
  • came with 1030
  • updated to 1041 with 3.2.x updates (97HB/97ZZ)

Late production 2023 ID.4s
  • came with 1041 from factory

Early production 2023 ID.4s
  • came with 1030
  • did not receive 3.2.x updates
  • 3.5.x update (919A) does not include 008C upgrade
  • remain at 1030

At first, I was only mildly concerned mostly just because I expected the BMS to be updated but it was not. However, since getting the 3.5.x update, I've noticed a quirk in the state of charge on my car after charging. When I start driving after having charged, the SoC always increases by a few percent. For example, I set my charge limit to 70%. The car charges to 70% and stops. Once I start driving, within 5-10 minutes all of a sudden, my SoC starts increasing, usually ending up at 73%. This behavior only started after the software update. I still need to try a full battery recalibration to see if that fixes it, but it was calibrated well prior to the software update. One theory I have now is that the older 1030 BMS code isn't working as well with the newer updated code from other charging related components, but who knows 🤷‍♂️

EDIT:
I just realized you mentioned yours was a late 2023. Did it already have 3.5.x software on it when you purchased it? If so, that blows some holes in what I was thinking.
