EVSE charge cable under garage door..... any problems?

I have a VW ID4 reserved, not in my possession........ YET!

Being a bit proactive, I bought the ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 charger and will have it installed this weekend in my garage. The plan right now is to keep the VW outside during the “nice” weather of the Midwest & then in the garage during the winter months.

Here is my question...... While the VW is parked outside on the driveway and needing to charge overnight, is the cord/cable going to be OK with the overhead garage door laying on it night after night?

Thanks for any & all helpful input.

As long as the pressure on the cable isn't too much it will be fine. There is a travel adjustment on the door opener, you could leave a small gap on the bottom of the door.

I've done this before for occasional charging outside but not as a regular thing.

I did this with the stock L1 EVSE that came with one of my Mitsubishis for several years. If the cable remains in the same place day after day, the garage door mashed it pretty flat (and that's a smaller cable than you'd have with an L2 EVSE I suspect) so the better solution (I think) would be to cut off the rubber gasket on the bottom of the door near one corner, so the cable has a place to rest where the rubber gasket won't be crushing it. You could tape a small piece of wood along side the cable where the door hits it and that would keep the weight of the door off the cable - You might need to readjust the amount of pressure the garage door opener presses down on the closed door . . . . assuming you have an opener

Here's my low cost solution for outdoors. It does involve drilling a 4" hole through your wall, though. I used a couple of dryer vents with a cutout in the flaps for the cord. The plug can be fed back through inside by removing the flaps, but we keep our EV outside 100% of the time.

Looks good. Presumably low enough so as not to trigger the Auto-opening garage door safety mechanism?

I still wouldn't want to invite mice with such a gap, but for those with no choice a nice crush-prevention.
Check out our product UNDOR. Allows you to safely run your charging cable under your garage door without crushing it. Designed to fit level 2 cables! ...

I've been charging my Tesla on my driveway at night and I noticed the cable was getting dented by the weight of the garage door so we bought this cable protector and we've been super happy with it!

I just use a small piece of wood under the door. Works fine
