I just picked up my car (2022 Pro S) after 4 days with the dealer. Same problem. GPS shows me driving to Canada across lake Erie. This happened two years ago and the solution was replacing the antenna. This time they told me it was the car-net module. They replaced it this morning and the problem still exists. Now I'm getting the "It's a problem with Verizon" and it will begin functioning again after Verizon fixes their issues. Not holding my breath. Love the car, but not all the time it's been in the shop. Been waiting over a year for door handles.

Unfortunately, myVW app is now not connecting to my ID.4. It says it updates in the App, but the % charge is always showing 54%, and I can't send any commands to the car from the App. Not sure if this is related to the GPS navigation issue, but the car does indicate that it is connected to CarNet (I have a green light by the button in the car).

In my experience you need to visit the dealer. It may not be fast, and they may point you back to car net. I point out that they are the systems integrator.

I have been working this issue for almost 2.5 years. There are lots of stories but little resolution. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I have a 2024 ID4 Standard that I leased in February, so about 7 months ago. The GPS first started to malfunction about 3 months ago. I have had it in to two VW dealers. On both occasions VW told the dealers not to replace the communications module because the problem lies with Verizon's satellites. I am not so sure I believe that. I called VW customer CARE after going to the first dealer and they told me to call Verizon. The rep that I spoke to in Verizon's IT department told me they have nothing to do with Volkswagen's GPS but that they do support an internet subscription service. Anyway, the whole thing seems like a bit run-around to me. And I don't think Volkswagen wants to spend the money to try and fix their own faulty electronics. I am aware that they just invested a lot of money in Rivian and future models with be getting their (Rivian's) electronics but I don't think they are ever going to fix the older models impacted. As I write this I am on hold with VW customer Care to see if they will give me and update. Last time they acted like they weren't familiar with the problem so, I'm not hopeful. And of course it has taken be two hours to get a call back and now I'm on hold for another 20 minutes.

I never bought the Verizon's fault BS. Cell service is fine. My VW mechanic was told to reload the entire GPS navigation software package, reboot the system and then waiting for it to synch. It fixed the GPS problem and the stupid alerts about maps and road signs.

Do you mind reporting back if the fix holds? I had some module replaced (If I dig out the service paperwork I can quote module #) back in February 2024 and nav worked well until about ~June 2024 then went back to over the river/lake and through the woods.

The NAV problem is a sticking sore spot with me my on my ID.4, mainly because since June 2024 it always is 'this is a Verizon problem, software update coming next month' and also because it basically stops other functionality of the car (speed limit sign recognition and charging locations).

My service was performed on July 18, 2025. It's been solid as a rockstar since then.
BTW, it took a "sleep" cycle before the software fully took effect. The immediate road test was a failure, but he was told to put it to "sleep" and test again. I assume that it was communicating via the cellular connection to upload maps, etc. during that idle time.

So my understanding is that there are two problems, which VW calls GPS Problem.

The one I have, I refer to internet connectivity, but VW customer care calls it a GPS problem. The map shows the correct lat/long. Any request to navigate to "DelMonte VW" results in a "Sorry" response. However, a request to 123 Main Street, results in navigation to that address.

The second is where the car's GPS finds one miles from where it is. I would be inclined to call that a GPS Problem.

Apparently both problems are alleged to be fixed with a software release, a dealer thinks it is the same release for both problems. The same dealer, and a customer care agent, both state that they do not have a release date for that software update, and they do not know the name of it.

The internet connectivity problem I took to a dealer in February 2023. It has not been fixed. Furthermore it was provided via complementary Car-net connectivity on a new vehicle. Despite having it not working for such a long time, neither VW nor Car-net are willing to extend the complementary service.

In my opinion, the a premium is paid with the ID.4 for these features (navigation, maps, voice response, navigation updates), and to not have them working for years without consideration, is unacceptable.

So, did you have an independent mechanic do that or a VW dealer. I have been to two dealers who have both told me VW instructed them not to replace the module (because it is Verizon's fault). They never mentioned anything about reloading GPS software. I being a 7 month old car I want VW to fix it under warranty.

I finally got on the phone with VW customer care this afternoon. I was on with the rep for about 40 minutes. The first thing they said to me was, 'did your car notify you of a software update'? I said, not recently but then again, I haven't had internet connectivity for a couple months now so I wouldn't get it anyway. They put me on hold twice, for about 10 minutes, to research the problem. Ultimately they said to contact the dealer again and ask them to fix your internet connectivity they we may (or may not) be able to fix the GPS with a software update). All in all they were very wishy washy and not sure at all if there even is a software update.

I was told by the dealer previously that the internet connectivity problem is due to the the Verizon thing but. When at how shouldn't I be able to connect to my wifi without using a Verizon satellite?

After about 2 months, VW replaced the OCU module (modem or antenna?). The problem is fixed. Although after replacing it they tested and the GPS issue was still there so they did a full reset and after it was fixed. So not sure if it was a hardware failure or just software. But it is fixed for now and will see.......

Pretty sure the car does not connect to a Verizon "satellite". A Verizon cell-tower perhaps. The only internet services via a satellite are Starlink and perhaps HughesNet or whatever is used to give folks out in the middle of nowhere 100kbps internet service.

There are a couple of things the car would get from Verizon. Time of day for one.

But cellphones can look at which cell towers the phone is connected to, and use that to try and improve the GPS fix. I thought the DB of cell towers was proprietary, so the car wouldn't have access to that.

If you aren't connected to a Verizon cell tower, it might mean that you are roaming, and that introduces other possibilities.
