Have you tried other chargers? Like a public L2 charger? If you take it to a public L2 charger it works fine, you can be sure the issue is with the VW supplied charger or the wiring in your house.

Then, if you have friends with an EV, ask them to try your VW charger and see if it works for them...

And finally, take the charger somewhere else (like a friend's house) and plug it into their house - the issue could well be the outlet you're connected to, not the car or the charger!

According to the owners manual for that EVSE, that light indicates its too hot internally (>122F) and "THE MOBILE CHARGER IS CHARGING AT A REDUCED RATE DUE TO OVERHEATING"
until it cools. About all you can do is charge at night when its cooler, or get an EVSE that can handle hotter temps. A quick search showed many complaints about that unit overheating on Ford forums

Another thing that can make that light orange is a bad outlet. You could try it on any other outlet.

I had similar problems when I first had my car. Solution in my case was to make double-sure that the connector is fully and completely plugged in, so that it clicks and can't be pulled out. You can sort of half-way plug it in and it will seem like it might be working even though it's not.

 

Yes, I had the same issue with that charger. Actually, had 2 of them because the original one quit completely and was replaced under warranty. Apparently it overheats.
I bought a different charger and haven't had a single problem since.

 

Did you replace your charger with another Volkswagen charger? I know there are other brand of chargers and I was wondering if they work better. My electrician said that my charger was faulty. The wires got burnt out.

 

I think the one that comes with the car is designed for occasional use when traveling. I’d buy a wall mounted unit for home use.

 

No, I bought a Grizzl-e classic - the dumb model. It always works and doesn't get very warm even set to 40 amps.
My son has a Juice Box for his ID4 and has had no problems with it. There are other good choices.
I agree with Jupiter that the VW charger (actually a Webasto Go, if you want to google the problems Ford owners have had) apparently wasn't designed for daily use.

My electrician had to switch out the plug. He said that the charger fried the wiring. I was able to get my charger replaced. So far so good, but it could happen again.
