ID.4 Air Conditioning issue

Hello. Out of nowhere our 2021 id4 allows us to turn on ac as normal but no cool air is felt. Tried restarting infotainment. Would love this to an easy at home fix but perhaps we need to see the dealer? Is there a known issue? Thanks!

My ID.4 has been serving me well for 15 months (today!) with no A/C issues and I leave my Clima in Auto so there are times it runs even in Winter to reduce cabin humidity (it's good to run A/C in Winter periodically just to keep things lubricated btw).

I would also reference @edid4 recent travelogue where he cites excellent extended A/C output in very hot desert environment. So no, I wouldn't say there's a known issue.

However any mechanical system can develop a problem. It could very well be a leaking refrigerant hose. Don't buy a DIY kit as those often add more refrigerant than they should as they don't meter the low pressure side. Only a Pro shop has the gear to properly balance the system.

Or it could be an electrical issue keeping the compressor from engaging, etc. You could check for a blown fuse. But be reminded that replacing such is not really a solution as there was probably a valid systemic reason for a blown fuse in the first place.

Do take it to your dealership for in-warranty resolution.

But it is. Reports of broken AC with the liquids all leaked out are several a month. I may be wrong and I can't verify because I can't see "quality improvement campaigns" unless I own a car those apply to, but I think ID.3:s were so bad there was a campaing to replace some parts in conjuction with the 2 year check-up even if there was no issues.

ID.4:s don't seem that affected, but I've seen several reports of that during the summer. And of course, wait times for repair are 2-4 weeks, great fun driving a hot car during the summer.

Just checked a group of two thousand ID.4/5 owners on facebook (so a relatively small sample). Three reports of AC not working in June/July alone. Reasons varied, one leaking coolant.

Had 2 issues with our AC on our 2021 ID.4. First time, got the compressor controller reflashed. Seemed okay when we picked it up, but didn't last long. 2nd solution was a completely new compressor controller. Took a few days to arrive, and installed in about 2 hours. Been fine ever since.

Thanks everyone! I'm at the VW Service Center now so will report back how it turns out. I hope they can do something as it's going to be in the high 90s here in the next days (Central Virginia). I'm lucky I got in here actually - 90 minutes out of town - as my local dealership is backed up until the end of June. I will post my resolution soon hopefully.

Same just happened to our 1st Edition. Worked great for over a year and now no AC. Took it to dealership and they said I need a new temperature sensor and of course the part is not available and on back order. Could be weeks or months. :cautious: Its too hot in Maryland to wait that long!

TECHNICIAN FOUND FAULT CODE P053000: AC TEMPERATURE SENSOR
CIRCUIT. INSPECTED SENSOR, POWER AND GROUND ARE GOOD, NO
OUTSIDE INFLUENCE FOUND. RECOMMEND REPLACEMENT OF AC
TEMPERATURE SENSOR

@mfoster did you get a resolution on your AC? I'm not confident in the solution my dealership offered/suggested. They seem to know NOTHING about ID4s. I am about to reach out to other dealerships.

I love my ID4 - except for the air conditioning. It currently warms the outside air by 4 degrees centigrade when on max air conditioning. As an example, yesterday the OAT was 28 degs C and the air coming out of the vents was 32 degs C. Today the OAT is 23 degs C and the air vent air is 27 degs C.

Another problem is the functioning of the air vents themselves. With all 4 main air vents (chest high) open, occasionally the two on the passenger side have no airflow at all. Nothing I do with the settings changes this. However, after a full shutdown, and leaving the A/c controls where they were, after half an hour and restarting the system (foot on brake pedal) the vents worked. However last Sunday I had the same problem - no airflow. A friend pushed a sheet of paper gently into the outside air vent aperture to check for a blockage - immediately air began to flow!

I am beginning to think I have a sensor or software fault in the aircon system. First available service date is Sept 20th. In the meantime I have booked the car in for a 12v free battery replacement and a software update as provided by VW. I hope this might solve my problem!

Another oddity - looking into the driver side outer air vent with a torch, I could see a 100mm wide and 250 mm tall, green pcb sticking up inside the vent piping. Is this standard? I have never seen a pcb in an air con pipe before.

There's definitely something wrong with your system. I'm not sure if you have the heat pump model (being in the UK), but my heat pump model blows ice cold in 31 degs C weather. It actually numbs my hands, I had to aim the vents away from the steering wheel. :ROFLMAO:

After saying they would get the replacement sensor in a day, now a week later they say it's on backorder with an unknown delivery date. I will see if I can get additional info Monday. Since I didn't buy it from this dealer they won't give me a loaner. They said I should take it to the dealer I bought it from and they might give me a loaner.

Took the id4 to the original dealer who said their ac machine was now fixed. They said they checked the a/c and ordered a new part G395 which is an A/C Pressure/Temp sensor. It is on backorder. Neither dealer could find the technical bulletin and neither could give me the scanners error code. I'm skeptical that either dealer ran a scan. The backorder could be weeks or months. I will report back when the repair is completed.

8/31/2022 Update:
Dealership called me yesterday to let me know that their AC machine is still broken, whaattt 😖.
No fun driving w/o AC. If they can't check the refrigerant charge how can they order the bad sensor I might need which is on back order elsewhere.
How much longer do I wait before escalating this issue 😖.

No more longer, that is how long you wait. An AC machine is a basic tool that any dealership should have. And if broken, should be fixed in a timely manner. If there are no other dealers in your area, I would escalate it now. You have been waiting for a few weeks, right?

is this the part that VW has issues stocking? View attachment 14903

9/22/22 update:
Audi part is not approved. Obviously Amazon replacement part voids VW warranty. Below is latest invoice.
Last night low was 49 F, today's high 67 F. I opened the sunshade for the first time since April.
Current status: no AC. Next visit to dealership is when part shows up.

To be continued...

We are having the same a/c problems. Hot air blowing when a/c is on. Dealership here in puente hills California said it’s the g395 a/c pressure sensor. They said it’s on back order. The car has been in the shop for 4 days now . They’re saying they should know the eta of the a/c pressure sensor part by Wednesday’s yet when I search google, seems like parts are available. Am I missing something ?

Jss328,
I did the same search. Audi uses the same damn part. The part is available. WTF VW?

I took my ID.4 in last week because AC wasn't working. I got the car in February when it wasn't hot outside but by June and through July it was getting worse. I was out of the country for several weeks so didn't have time until last week to take it in. They said the refrigerant was very low. They refilled it and put a dye in to try to find a leak but no leak was found.
