ID.4 basic user guide

I wrote up a user guide for the ID.4 to help with urgent or semi-urgent issues, like an inability to open the door or to start the car. Some folks in this thread asked me to make it available, so here it is:

VW ID.4 Basic User Guide

I left it in Google Docs/Word format instead of converting it to PDF because it's specific to my car and my situation. For example, the owner of an RWD model may need to remove the note that there's no tow hook receptacle in the front bumper. Similarly, many folks have family members who know perfectly well how to plug the car in. YMMV, as usual.

It's also why I didn't include more in-depth but maybe less immediately critical fixes like the Fuse 19 trick. My family members, at least, would rather walk.

It might go without saying, but I have some stuff that didn't come with the car:

  • Spare wheel, jack, lug bolt wrench, wheel guide
  • Battery jumper
  • Crescent wrench, socket wrench, screwdriver
  • L2 and DCFC J3400 adapters
  • Tesla portable EVSE kit

Thanks to @Spin for the encouragement and for offering to create a sticky.

What I need is a "how to for dummies" on the connecting the car to Wi-Fi for the updates and such. Not sure that is a "thing" but as an old duffer a lot of this over the air stuff is past me. Keeps asking me to log in again.

Thanks

If you can, share a photo of what you’re seeing. There are a couple of different reasons the car might be asking you to log in.

One question: What is the last image in the doc (a silver threaded eyelet)? I don't remember seeing that item in my 2023 ID.4.
It’s a tow attachment. If you have an AWD model, you won’t have it because there’s nowhere to attach it. If you have an RWD model and you don’t have the tow attachment, have the dealership get you one.

Yes but that is different and all cars have that (or the trailer hitch which is preferred) and the tow eyelet we are talking about is for the front only, and 21-22 only.
I changed my example caveat above to read “the owner of an RWD model may need to remove the note that there's no tow hook receptacle . . . .”

Is the guide for reading online? I was wondering if I could download the document.
If you open it in Google Docs, you should have the option to download it. Alternatively, you should be able to copy and paste the contents into a Word document, for example.
