Hi,

Can someone tell me how long the average wait is for an ID4? Can't seem to find a clear answer anywhere

It is possible to buy a car, today, tomorrow, next week or month directly from a dealer - That's how I got mine after a couple week search. You may have to drive it home from a few hundred miles away, but there are cars out there to be had. Some people reserved a car last year and then bought something else in the meantime, so when those cars finally show up, they aren't bought by the reservation holder and the dealers are free to sell them to anyone

It takes a little work, making phone calls and doing online searches, but if you really want one this year, it can fairly easily be done . . . . assuming you're willing to travel a bit to find the right car. Some dealers will try to mark up the price above MSRP, so you may need to search a little harder to find one for the right price

Agree with the previous recommendations. As we are rapidly moving into recession, as well as time of expensive loans , I think we will see large number of cancelations in upcoming month.

The more I hear from "experts" the prices will not go down, the more I think they will. ;)

I’m actually debating on whether I should reserve an AWD soon. My current lease expires September 2023 and I’ve held off with a reservation because of the promises of increased capacity with the Chattanooga plant. Starting to wonder if I should just put in a reservation to be safe and I can just cancel if they really start pumping them out.

I have been waiting 9 months and anticipate another 2-3 before delivery. That said, I think that the wind is in your favor for a quicker delivery. The new line in TN will increase supply for NA as well as decrease transit time. Plus rising interest rates are going to kill demand for big ticket consumer purchases which require financing. Rumor is for a 1% hike by the fed the next time around.

I ordered the highest trim package and locked in my reservation in April with a mid 2022 delivery date. Still shows Mid 2022 delivery date, but I just called the dealership and was told it's been updated on their end to be at the lot for pick up Nov/Dec of this year, maybe earlier if the new factory gets production going quickly, but he did not sound optimistic. He stated burning belts and chip shortages did not help with speed of production, either.

sounds like this dealer may be blowing smoke. The reference to the burning belt does it for me. We had a fire at the plant almost a year ago where a conveyor belt caught fire and shut part of our plant down for a day or so. That had absolutely nothing to do with the ID4. Also, there were not that many ID4s that were on the ship that sank. The chip part is spot on however.

So weird. One dealer told me today he is expecting wait times to come down to 4 months based on VW increasing production.

Its hard to say. I reserved in early May and still haven't locked, but some people lock within a couple weeks. There appears to be a mysterious system that looks at the trim level you picked and your geographic location/what dealer you picked. It definitely isn't first in/first out. The hope is that things get quicker with Chattanooga up and running but there haven't been any locks since they started producing and it sounds like they might be sitting on what they make and release a big number in October.
