where is the 12v outlet in the id5#

in the id5 its unside the glove box. hidden away at the back.
finding this sort of information is ridiculously hard
VW are no help at all
ended up on youtube to get the answers

you move fuse 52 up one position which turns on the 12v outlet even if the ignition is not in drive (outlet in the boot left hand side)
why vw disable it like this is beyond me - you need to use this to power the pump for the tyres - and you wouldnt do that sitting in the drives seat

Yes, this has been well discussed before in the ID.4 section. Presumably VW was erring on the side of preserving battery capacity. If someone left something plugged in, and the circuit was active and drained the battery, there would be complaints. No win situation. Although as you cite with a simple fuse relocation you can have it your way, so some engineer was thinking. ;)

Doesn’t the ID.5 owner’s manual cite/picture where the socket resides?

btw @barryneil93 , just reminded myself of this ID.4 thread, so again it has been discussed for quite some time.

So far more limited power wise than the main battery ... but wont impact range.
how is the 12v recharged ... is there an alternator in an EV? In an ICE car the alternator runs when the engine is running ... the car doesnt have to be moving right?

How about an EV?? does it recharge the 12v battery when moving only?
Or does the main battery recharge the 12v as soon as the vehicle powers up?

The ID.4 has a “DC-to-DC converter” that can transform the 340 Volts Direct Current of the High Voltage Battery down to the 12 Volts of Direct Current used by most of the auxiliary equipment in the car (including the 12V outlet in the boot). The 12V battery is on that same 12V bus and powers the auxiliary equipent when the DC-to-DC converter is switched off. The 12V battery will be recharged from the DC-to-DC converter when the converter is on. And it's the ID.4's computers that decide when to switch the DC-to-DC converter on and off; generally, it's on when the car is on and off when the car is off.

In theory, the DC-to-DC converter can also be switched on whenever the car decides that the 12V battery is running low but in practice, the ID.4 makes poor decisions in that regard and it's easy to flatten your 12V battery while the DC-to-DC converter incorrectly stays off. (There are many, many threads in this forum discussing aspects of this behaviour.)
