ID4 Charging: Direct Charging to (0-50%) Option

Just setup a ChargePoint Flex Plus home charging station last night. We decided to use the in car charging settings and are a bit confused as to what the Direct Charging to (0-50%) option does. We are "guessing" that it allows a quick charge up to the selection you indicate to protect the battery. Is this the case? If so, what is the recommended setting? As an FYI, our ChargePoint is directly wired on a 60amp service.

Or is this something else completely?

That's exactly it. Say you arrive home with 10%, and you want the battery above 20% for health, or you have to pick up the kids at 6:00 and want a minimum of 30% for that errand, or whatever...

This will get your car to that minimum threshold of your choosing, then complete the charge at the start of your set off-peak time.

60AMP circuit? Wow, sweet! You're running 48A service. Congrats.

Depending on your ID.4 software level, scheduled charging on the ID.4 may not work at all, so use use the Chargepoint wifi to control your charge times, and set the ID4 to Max at 70 or 80% depending on your usage.

You mentioned you purchased from Bay Ridge, so I'll assume your in the Con Ed service area. Smart Charge rewards offers sweet discounts from Con Ed between Midnight and 8AM. This link will let you know about it. If you cant or choose not to DC fast charge, this is excellent for you, and free. P.S. I get an attaboy as a referral too.

Enjoy!!

@Nai3t Thanks for the info. Set up in car charge parameters and worked perfectly.

@oobbyb thanks for the SmartCharge link. Did look at program but the dongle installation looked a little kludgie. You have it installed?
Dongle is fine for the ID.4, just plug it into your OBD2 port. It's kludgie for Teslas, where you may have to take apart the console and cable it in. Gets me back $25-30/mo just for plugging it in. No brainer, IMO.

Hey everybody. I have just started trying to use timed charging, as my time of use program in NC is quite attractive. 2.5 / kw in the dark of night. I have met with various forms of charge failure trying to use the ID.4 timer. What settings do you put into the ID.4 when using timed charge controlled by the Charge Point? I could diverge and rant at VW for this egregious failure in design, but perhaps another day if there is a work around.

A lot of the scheduled charging works in the 2022MY/3.1 Software. Only issue I have ran into is often the car doesn't recognize my location and so it sets it to 'Immediate Charging' when I am home. I have to remember to change the settings when I park from the exit menu to prevent it to charge right away. Kind of annoying and often I forget to change it after a long day.
