Anybody have an idea if we should expect a big increase in insurance costs for the ID.4? Just not sure what to expect...

Geico quote was crazy high for a Model 3 for us as well. Other companies' quotes were a lot lower, and we didn't end up paying any more for the Model 3 than the much older BMW X3 it replaced. Geico may be an outlier for Teslas or for EVs in general, but as others have said it's hard to compare quotes because there are so many variables.

I have a guesstimate from my insurance agent and the insurance is about 58% higher for the ID.4 than my newer Acura MDX. The Acura may have been a little more expensive a couple years ago. Also $200 additional fee for license plate tags every year for EV's. No state tax breaks at all in Ohio. Then there is the cost of the EVSE and the installation. There is only one Electrify America charging station in Cincinnati, on the other side of town, so no savings there to offset the additional costs. I'm hoping that the ID.4 is a fun and reliable car.

Initially the insurance will be higher as insurance companies will not have any data on the cost to repair, once there is more data costs will start trickling down. Pointless to compare the cost to Tesla as Teslas are notoriously expensive to fix due to parts issues. Also does not make sense to compare prices on the forum as personal driving history and location are the biggest factor of price (even different zip codes in the same proximity can vary insurance prices a significant amount).

When we got our 2019 Model 3 I got several quotes and they were wildly different for the same coverage. Ended up switching companies and paying about the same as we had been, but if I hadn’t switched the cost would have tripled. The insurance companies were comparable — prices were not. Getting multiple quotes can pay off, especially for a new vehicle or an EV where there isn’t too much data out there.

So I called Geico (which is always the cheapest for me) and they did a ballpark comparison with a Model 3. Basically in my situation the difference per month is $100.00 +/-
The Tesla is more and the ID.4 is "estimated" to be less. But overall with the ID.4 my monthly payment will go up approx $40.00

Hi all, I just got a quote (in NJ) from Geico and wanted to share.

For 6 months I was quoted $693 for the VW ID.4. With my Prius I currently pay $535.20 every 6 months for the same level of coverage. So not too bad. I have been with Geico for a long time and have quite a few discounts.

I will probably be selling my Prius this Friday so in the mean time I will have a non-owners policy for $34.52 a month until I get the ID.4.

I just checked with my Allstate agent here in PA, and he is quoting more than double my current rate, (for a 2008 Honda Fit,) at $990/6mo after discounts. I know it's a big jump in cars, but that still seems steep. Going to shop around a bit more, might be easier once I have a VIN, as most of the other insurance sites I tried don't have the ID.4 in their model selection menu yet.

I contacted my insurance agent (Allstate) and got a quote with the fake VIN. It came back as $380 for 6 months, which is actually about $85 less than my 2019 Tiguan. Hopefully that number won't change when I get the real VIN.
