To be clear. It then appeared the harness wiring could possibly reach those two sensors it was more that you couldn't reach the sensors with the harness and plugs?
They definitely go down there. I could follow the cable almost all the way to the first one. It was like 2 inches out of my reach and then the cable continues on to the second. Have you have access to a better dealer than I do they may be able to tell you what sensors it is. Mine won't really answer any of those questions because they want to be paid to install the harness.

I remain mystified as to why VW didn't include the lighted front logo in USA-destined FE's. Was it a DOT approval item that didn't get timely resolved? A minor but sum of the parts cost reduction? One would think it would be an excellent nighttime advertising for VW on their initial vehicles. Personally I really don't care if I have it or not but that doesn't stop me from wondering.

Thanks to all those offering this detailed mod advice however.
From what I was told by Emobility they couldn't get the wiring in time to make that ship dates so they pulled it as a feature on the first editions.

So I guess I'll tell myself "just another FE-unique item towards remaining understated." ;) Thanks for the 411.
Since illuminated badges are illegal there, I think of it as the authentic German version.

I think it was a combination of things - for one, supply chain issues. And I believe in Europe, lighted badges are not permitted.

I was willing to spend about as much for the Homelink thing - this I am not so sure about.

It is funny - I originally reserved a Pro-S because I missed the initial FE. When they re-opened it, I switched to FE without giving it a huge amount of thought (mainly so I could get a car sooner). But some of the subtleties of the differences are things that I didn't really pick up on until much later.

Not trying to be a pest, and I truly appreciate your contribution, but could you please take a picture of the two plugs that are connected to the badge? Especially if they have any kind of numbering. Even though the whole thing came in a harness, all individual plugs have a part number.

The badge part number is 11A-853-600-A-AWA

I did a spread sheet calculating both price and shipping from different websites. You may want to spend time to do the same so you can find the best price.

Is it the same connector for the lighted grille bar? I was wondering if one could just make a little Y shaped dongle and that way not need to splice the wiring.
I pulled the trigger and bought the badge and part numbers 11G-973-702 and 11G-973-702A. These are just housings. I have a whole slew of crimp terminals part number n 907 647 01 to make my own wires. I'm planning to do an installation writeup and post it here. I will definitely try the connectors for the grille bar and report my findings here.

Last night I was looking for the "4F0-973-702" - that's the connector used for the light bar (at least on one side - the side that was up when I stuck my head in there), but I figure they are the same.

The basic housing is somewhat available if you search around. But I am not yet finding the the part number for the mating connector. I am still thinking of a Y-shaped dongle to power the thing, which would make installation a breeze.

I did find this page:

That has links for mating connectors, but I have not yet found an e-store that sells them. The link above has them - 36 euros to ship a 1 euro part.

Do you think that that connector is unique to the ID4? Is it available out of the dealership parts department at a reasonable cost? What about going to a body shop and asking if they could get you 1 or 2 as needed?
Suppose an audio installation shop could hook you up (pun intended)? There has to be a way to get them inexpensively for self-installation.
What an opportunity for an entrepreneur to sell a limited number, say 50-100, of installation kits. Pent up FE owners are starving for a reasonably inexpensive solution.
I yearn for days of past, when you could simply tap into an existing wire or install a Bosch toggle switch. Those EEs (I'm one) really screwed things up 😖.

It looks like something that Audi also uses. The 4F0-973-702F is available from there for about 6$ or so, but possible cheaper elsewhere as I didn't do an exhaustive search. It is the mating connector that I am still stumped by. I did find this:

But that's a 4-pin connector, not a two-pin. There are somewhat similar 2-pin connectors on eBay - who knows if they are compatible or not. I suspect the last digit of the part number is the number of pins.

Sometimes people need to make cables of some sort to repair a wiring harness, or make mods of their own. In some cases, I see people selling pigtails, that I guess you would use if part of the harness got damaged, but that's something that would only work if you were already planning to cut and splice the wires. Someone who is experienced at repairing a wiring harness would be able to pull parts off the shelf for this.

Maybe this:

Supposedly has both the male and female, with pins and gaskets. I can't be 100% sure that it is compatible, but the description has:

1-1703498-1 4F 0 973 702 0-2112986-1 1-1718643-1 Tyco amp 2 pin male and female electrical connectors with terminals and gaskets
If this works, then all one needs is the 11G-973-702 (with pins an gaskets).

Ok, so what happens if one of the plugs is disconnected? Why there are two connections for such a simple part has been the million dollar question.
One for the Right-side and 1 for the Left-side (Verified)

On the non-FE with the lighted front VW Badge. When is it illuminated? With DRL's ON or only when the lighted bars are on (with headlights)? I'm like to wire my FE-retrofit to come on with the DRL's also. Any info would be appreciated,
