I am looking at some 18" alloy Audi S4 rims. Not sure if they will fit. What does the J in 8J for the rim width mean?
Don’t worry about the “J” worry about the centre bore diameter. Most VW are 57.1, most Audi are 66.5. You can adapt with a spigot but something to think about.

It's the Costco Corporate policy that they'll only sell and install tires size for size.

You can just buy the tires there and have another tire shop install them.
You're kind of late to the party because I bought the tires at Costco and they installed them. They said it was fine since the circumference was the same (their policy is within 3%). I have the 20" stock wheels and my snowies are on 18" wheels, 235/60R18 tire size specifically.

I have experienced where they would install the tires on the wheels but not onto the car, so I just tossed them in the back. They went by the sticker on the door as the only size permitted. Makes sense from a liability / lawyer talk.

They are the same size though, because the tires are taller. So it doesn’t mess up the speedometer/odometer or anything. Also our owner’s manual lists this as an OE tire size

I'm pretty sure VAG uses lug bolts, not lug nuts?
Pretty sure you can quote multiple posts in your reply so you don’t need to reply to the same thread 7 times in a row. Isn’t learning fun?

Correct size for snow tires.
I’m aware. I was addressing the person who claimed Costco would not install them because they are not the same size as my stock setup. Edit: oh wait that was you, lol. Now I’m confused.

But Costco was able to use aftermarket ones on the Audi wheels?
Yes. I don’t think the lug bolts work on the Audi wheels for whatever reason. I don’t see why they would lie about it, doesn’t matter to them one way or another.
