Captain's Log: Day 6 of VW ID.4-less-ness.

CarNet continues to show the 12V battery too low message and I have not gotten any more updates from the dealer. To add insult to injury, the Tiguan loaner appears to have a blown out left rear door speaker (I swear it wasn't me) so I have the fader on full front and the Sirius/XM has expired so no Grateful Dead Channel for me. Oh the first world horrors! 🙃

In the karma department, the CR2025 battery in the loaner Tiguan was low (cluster message each time I got in) so I swapped that out for a fresh one. You're welcome, VW dealer. 😀

Any news on getting authorization to become certified ODIS level of integration Andy.
I make many technicians at VW Dealerships lost because i use your scanner for most of my works.

@VW TECHNICIAN I had passed your earlier suggestions on within the company.

Captain's Log: Day 7 of VW ID.4-less-ness. The dealership emailed to let me know their tech has scanned the car, opened up a techline case, and are in touch with the regional tech rep to see how to proceed. I'm morbidly curious to see pix and videos if they end up dropping the HV battery. 🧟‍♀️

How long is the buyback process taking? I've been told that its officially 20 business days, probably longer.
I was told 20 business days from the day that they receive my documents. It can be lengthened by not supplying the required documents or the correct ones. It’s a pretty extensive list but nothing you shouldn’t already have. I’m almost to day 10 since submitting and I’m dying inside telling myself not to look at alternative car options in the meantime because it could be denied.

I mean I’ve had my car back almost a week but I have barely driven it and I haven’t even charged it because I’m so paranoid of getting stranded again. We’ll see.

Captain's Log: Day 10 of VW ID.4-less-ness.

While awaiting updates from my dealer (last I heard on Weds they were sending some requested measuring data to their hotline), I have been checking the Carnet app pretty much daily only to see the familiar “12V battery too low” message I posted earlier in this thread. Last night I checked and suddenly actual data:

Maybe they hooked up a 12V charger? I didn’t try to remotely turn on the HVAC or anything because I don’t want to complicate their troubleshooting by adding ghost behavior. 👻

Anyway, this is a promising sign of life

I saw that message when mine was in too. I assumed they had disconnected the 12 V during data collection or troubleshooting because when mine came back online SoC was right where I left. Hopefully you get word back and can get repaired quick. Do let us know what the diagnosis is, I'm very interested

It looks like maybe some progress is being made. Hopefully, you get your car back soon.

watching with interest and thought I'd mention that if you have a Sirrus/XM subscription you should be able to download the app to your phone, connect it to the Tiguan using CarPlay or Android Auto and stream your Grateful Dead channel that way... Perhaps this will make driving the Tiggy a little less painful.

🎸Thanks for the suggestion. For now I have been thinking up a Broken ID.4 Setlist:

Not Fade Away > Turn On Your Lovelight > Lazy Lightnin' > Smokestack Lightning > Brokedown Palace > Tons Of Steel > He's Gone

Yesterday crossed the 2 week mark without the ID.4. My local dealer has been great about providing updates but it seems like VWoA is still formulating a plan of how to diagnose and repair this. In hindsight, I wish I had tried charging the 12V battery just in case that was the problem, but I didn’t want to interfere with any testing plans the dealer might have, and that’s something the average consumer is probably not going to do in a case like this.

FWIW, I think you did the correct thing because that would have been treating the symptom rather than the problem.

That is, even if the dead 12v was "the problem" it still would only be a symptom of whatever deeper problem caused the discharge. If you had charge it, there would not have been an acute issue and the dealership wouldn't have taken it in for diagnostics (at least, they've never agreed to conduct preventative diagnostics for me even if I offered to pay--they have always told me that without a system error there isn't anything for their troubleshooting tools to do).

I got the same battery too low message in my CarNet app yesterday, I have never gotten any messages in the ID4 infotainment or gauge console though...except travel assist randomly becoming unavailable on a few trips.
I also noticed about two days ago a faint clicking coming from around the dashboard, sounds like maybe a relay constantly switching, I can only hear while sitting in the car with the radio turned all the way down.

I scheduled a service appointment but unfortunately they don't have a loaner available until next month, hopefully the 12V is not critical to the main battery cooling system and this car doesn't catch on fire.

Saddens me to see your dealer has so little knowledge. Must say that our dealers here seem to be better trained, and more experienced. Way more VAG cars I guess, and easier to get training at the HQ in Germany.

My car started getting travel assist not available errors sometimes after having my dash cam hardwired to always on to the 12V battery. Maybe something to do with the 12V battery indeed.

Hmm, I have been getting travel assist not available errors sometime when starting a drive as well before I started getting the 12V battery Low message in CarNet. It does sound like it may be related, maybe sensor system fails to start due to battery being too low, then it starts working again after 12V battery is charged back up.

Im about to charge it, so cross fingers, because it was after charging it before that it all came crashing down!
