Hi everyone I had a check parking sensor light go on last week. After researching I found it a small rock had hit and damaged the sensor. Cost of the local dealership was going to cost about $500. I was able to order the part for about $120 online and change it in about three minutes. Please see the attached videos and apologize for the terrible quality I am not a great videographer. hope it helps save everybody some money. Just so you know my right front sensor broke but I think this can be applied for most of the sensors.

When I went for Oil change for my Honda Civic, these D(ST)ealers told me I need filter change and quoted close to 100CAD labor to replace Engine and Cabin Air filters, parts extra. I laughed hard and denied the service. While picking up the car, bought both filters from them and replaced on their parking lot in less than 5 minutes and drove away.

You have to be assertive with these places. When I bought new snow tires for my Volt this year, the Pep Boys in Nashua, NH (yes, I'm naming them to shame them) wanted to 1) replace the cabin air filter, 2) replace the rear struts, and 3) replace the front brakes. I declined all of their kind offers because 1) I don't actually have the optional cabin air filter fitted to my Volt and 2&3) my car was about to go back to Quirk Chevy in Manchester for its annual state safety inspection, there was no evidence that these parts needed replacement, and if they did, Chris the Service Manager at Quirk would treat me fairly whereas it was very clear Pep Boys was trying to rip me off. After the state inspection, as always, I asked Christ if there was anything I needed to be concerned about in the upcoming year. “No.” was his answer.

Needless to say, Pep Boys won't be getting any further business from me ever.

Not sure if this was answered in any of the other sensor replacement threads, but these videos cover the replacement for the outer right and left front parking sensors. After realizing I couldn’t access the inner sensors from the front bonnet access, I immediately went to work taking out all the screws on the plastic trim underneath the grill….only to realize that was the entire bumper and was going to be way more complicated a task than I was prepared to take on this morning. However, I soon realized that was making an easy situation more difficult because you can access the front inner sensors from the openings in the grill 😂. So here’s the steps to remove the inner sensors:

1. Insert one finger through a hole on the left side of the grill to press down on the tab on the bottom of the sensor, and insert another finger through a hole on the right side of the sensor to push up on the top tab.

2. Use your thumb to push on the sensor from the outside of the bumper and the sensor will pop out of the slot.

3. then you just need to push the sensor through the hole in the grill to disconnected and replace with the new sensor. Don’t forget to swap the rubber ring.

having a helper hold a light is very important

4. Click the sensor back in to place. Done (unless your silly and have to put all the screws back in under the car that you shouldn’t have taken out in the first place).

here’s the tiny scratch that made my sensor work intermittently

Can someone please confirm what would be the correct part number for an inner sensor on a 2021 Pro S?

The damaged inner sensor on my car has 5WA.919.275.A printed on it.
I ordered a 5WA.919.275.A.905 from a VW dealership online, but they claim that based on my VIN, I need the 5WA.919.275.C.GRU, which is a primed one, not black. This does not make sense as the sensor is not painted.

Could someone please advise as to what is the correct part number for my car?

5WA-919-275-C-GRU is the one you need. Nothing is painted, or needs to be for that matter.

@Pascal Posted about Aliexpress selling those sensors back in May 2022 for ~$17. Still available. Not sure if anyone here has bought them from there, but cheap enough that I'm thinking it might be good to order in advance.

Those have a different part number than the one I replaced on my 2021 ID.4. They also have a “6.5” stamped on them, while mine has “6.0”. They might be calibrated differently.

Hi all, I am new to this forum. I would like to know if anyone has had to recalibrate there parking sensors once they had replaced them? Or had any issues with them after installation? My garage is saying they need to recalibrate them after fitting and want both my arms and legs to pay for it! Thanks

#21 ·
Thanks @rcppharmd. I though this might be the case. I have searched the internet and I cannot find any mention of the parking sensors needing to be recalibrated after fitting! I have been quoted £546 to replace a sensor by a VW dealer! They told me they would have to remove the bumper, replace the sensors, re calibrate the radar (which only needs doing when you remove the bumper) then recalibrate the parking sensors. On top of that they don't know if it's one faulty sensor so it may cost more! Thanks to this forum I have learnt taking the bumper off is unnecessary and replacing the sensor itself is very easy so thank you.

I had a faulty parking sensor that was giving me regular false alarms (most of the time I was starting from a stoplight, etc). The dealer replaced it under warranty, so I didn't consider replacing it myself. They did calibrate the new sensor, so there is at least a procedure for it, whether or not it's necessary.

First, I would like to thank pioneers for publishing their procedures To replace the sensor. Midwestchill and Rcppharmd. After doing what, I considered adequate research even to the point of sending the Vin number to a seller on eBay to order the sensor. It turns out it didn’t fit. The sensor was a 1EA919275A my broken part number is 5WA919275A picture attached. The plug is keyed and from the picture you can see the internal tabs in the female parts are in different locations. Further research, I found a picture on eBay of somebody selling sensors out of a bumper from a used ID.4 From the picture attached you can see the tabs you have to lift off the sensor. All references to orientation are for the inner sensor, passenger side. Now I made my next mental slip. I used the part number from the ebay picture 5WD and not 5WA part number from my bad part off the car. I did not realize this until I received the part today. It should be noted that every time I looked up the 5WD, part number, it always referred to being appropriate for the ID.4.

Having done what I consider due diligence the second time, I took a flyer and ordered the part on AliExpress.
two pieces 5WD919275A total cost delivered under $35. Yes, less than $17 apiece.
I received it today and the keys all match the car wire plug so that they plug inserted correctly into the sensor. The only difficulty I had was that the sensor body is also keyed to the car and can only go in one Way with the wire pointing to the left or to the right.

Process
Removal of the sensor was a minor difficulty. You have to push in on the center of the sensor while lifting the upper and lower tab that holds the sensor in place see photo attached. Once the sensor was loose, there’s adequate wiring to work it through the grill so that you can unhook the wire from the sensor. All you have to do is move the gray tab up and then gently pull the plug off. Total time 20 min. Probably because I didn’t have the second picture yet which showed me the location of the tabs and know how to remove it.

installation was just reversing the steps of removal, plug the wire into the sensor, set gray tab, work it through the grill and then put it into the hole of the grill where it locks in place. You need to be aware that the sensor is also keyed to the hole that it is installed in the grill, and you end up with the female case resting in the vertical position and shown in the picture if it doesn’t go very easy in all likelihood, you need to rotate 180° and it will snap in, in my case, I struggle a couple of minutes trying to figure out why it wouldn’t go in the hole and then took it out looked at it and realized that the housing of the sensor is keyed flipped it over and it snapped right in

Took the car out for a test drive. There was no calibration necessary And the parking sensors behaved the way they were supposed to and my orange warning light is out.

I tore the sensor apart just out of curiosity, being an engineer, the rear of the sensor has a printed circuit board with a fairly good size chip, it has a soft sponge like material between the chip and the face of the sensor; 2 thin, soft wires connect the circuit board to the aluminum face of the sensor. The face, which is exposed to the road is soft aluminum, and is like a diaphragm with a piece attached to the back of it it’s fairly easy to see why a stone from the road could put a nick in the face of the sensor and caused it to fail.

The only question I posed to the group is, does anybody know the difference between the 5WA and the 5WD parts other than the fact that one’s manufactured in Spain and the other ones manufactured in China?

Maybe it’s for the Chinese cars? 🤷‍♂️ Figuring out the correct sensor part numbers is incredibly confusing and the VW website doesn’t make it any less so. These are the part numbers I posted in the other sensor replacement thread but I still don’t know if it’s 100% correct

Hi!! I have the same problem in an id.3 MY22 (no intelligent park assist). The front left center parking sensor (in front of the steering wheel), is not working anymore because of a small rock hit. I’ve taken a picture of it (attached), but it doesn’t fit any of the six options given.
In AliExpress there’s an article that has exactly the same serial number, do you know if it will fit correctly?
Thanks in advance!!!

Hi,
I ordered 5wa919275a from this link: 5WA 5WD 919 275 A B Parking Radar Sensor Front Rear Side Radar for VW Golf MK8 ID3 ID4 Audi Q4 Q5 Q6 A3 SKODA Octavia SEAT LEON - AliExpress and it worked! Thanks so much for the guidance here, it was REALLY helpful!
2022 ID.4 ProS -- Front sensor, Passenger Side "Middle" not edge as indicated by the sensor display.
The one I removed was made in Spain, the replacement was (of course) made in China.
I should note that there does NOT appear to be any damage whatsoever to the sensor: no signs whatsoever of chips, dings, or anything of the like.
I see that there are many videos on YouTube recommending WD40 to fix. This didn't work for me and I don't see how it could. Anyone actually get WD40 to work? Or is this to just make sure that you clean it (!?)

@skaterdad Great. Thanks for reporting your success! I'll order a spare one.

The Parking Aid sensor code that I ordered was 1EA919275A905. I knew it was correct code because VW quoted me cost to fix it. I think this is the code for all of the black sensors in front grill that don't need to be painted to match the car (i.e. side sensors are primed so they can be painted to match car).

I ordered 4 of these sensors for my MY21 as I had the same warning come up, however my delivery units all are the 5WD version not 5WA that is on the original. I assume given the seller quotes both that they would work the same. Unfortunately I installed all 4 and they didn't work correctly. Now instead of the sensor warning I now have the yellow hazard indicator and display showing nothing is working. Any thoughts?

Did you ever get this figured out? My 2021 Pro S gave me warnings about the inner passenger sensor. I replaced with one from Aliexpress and get the yellow hazard a nothing works as well. My oem part was 5WD. I’ve tried both a 5WA from ebay and the 5WD from Aliexpress and both give me the yellow hazard warning afterwards.
