The first one offers the greatest flexibility since you can plug it in to any 120 volt receptacle if you're out and about. But it's limited to 12 amps at that voltage, which seems like a unnecessary compromise.

May I suggest this unit, which allows 16A at 120. Of course this needs to plugged it in to a 20A circuit to do that, but that's a typical rating for outdoor circuits .

I've been using the Duosida for coming up on two years on my other car and it's been a reliable performer, spending its life in my frunk and plugged in for 8+ hours daily.
Can the ID.4 charge at 16A on 120v? Most other EVs are limited to selection of 8A and 12A only.

I agree with this. We wound up getting a Wallbox EVSE so we can charge both the VW and Tesla at the same time and do EVSE-based scheduled charging on the VW, but the Tesla mobile connector with a Teslatap adapter works a charm.

FYI, it is worth spending the extra money for a 50amp or higher-rated adapter. Some Tesla destination chargers can serve 48 amps, which will overload the cheaper J1772 adapters. Getting the higher spec adapter gives you more flexibility for travel charging.
Be careful with the 'ratings'. Apparently, in the IS, the ratings quoted are for non-continuous loads (<3 hr). So the 40A can do 32A continous, the 50A can do 40A continuous. If you want to do 48A continuous, you'd have to go next one up, which is the 60A adapter for $100 more.
