Roadside Assistance - There's a cost?

So we had our first flat tire with no spare happen, and i had my kid call roadside assistance to take them into the tire dealer to get it fixed (ended up with two new tires, they were at 4/32 at 15k miles on the rear)

But she got charged $159 for it. I thought roadside was free the first few years? I can't find anything saying theres a charge when you look it up (USA) .

this says it's free: Volkswagen Carefree Coverage: Standard on Most 2020 and 2021 Models (vw.com) doesn't mention any fees. Before I raise up a stink, wanted to check if anyone had used it and there is a loophole I'm missing.

Sounds like you didn't use it to bring the vehicle to a VW dealer for repair. I guess in that case it's not free.

Towing
If your Volkswagen requires assistance due to a breakdown, complimentary towing will be provided to the nearest authorized VW dealership or authorized VW service facility. Please note, for security reasons towing service will not be provided to unattended vehicles—a licensed driver must accompany the vehicle at the time of service.

Wow thats silly you HAVE to tow it to the dealer for tires. This is good to know for the future should I ever get a flat.

Once I upgrade to CrossClimate2 I'll probably re-add the roadside assistance to my insurance policy. Right now VW Tires does not even show the CrossClimate2 as an option so would hate to be stuck in a situation where my car has a flat CrossClimate and is stuck at dealer because they don't carry it. Wonder if doing tires at the dealer they have the capacity to fix a repairable flat.
