In case anyone is interested in trying this, if you have a subscription to ABRP Premium, you can configure the ABRP complication on your Apple Watch face and have the real-time ID.4 SOC showing on the Apple Watch even if the OBD Bluetooth dongle plugged in the ID.4 OBD port is not within the Bluetooth range of the iPhone

ABRP Premium now has an option (still in beta) for the ID.4 to communicate its SOC over its cellular connection to the ABRP servers, so you don’t theoretically need a Bluetooth dongle anymore, even though ABRP still recommends a Bluetooth dongle for real-time data feeding the ABRP app.

I think the cellular connection doesn’t send as detailed data as the Bluetooth dongle does, but it’s pretty real-time over the cellular at least updating the SOC. This same feature allows the Apple Watch to display the real-time ID.4 SOC. Right now my wife is driving the ID.4, but I can see the real-time SOC on my Apple Watch while being at home.

I also have my Tesla Model Y SOC displaying on the same Apple Watch via another complication (this one is using the Stats app). So, I have the real-time SOC update for both of my EVs on the same Apple Watch face.

I could say this complication should be available via the myVW app and not require a third-party app with a subscription, but in VW’s defense, the Tesla app also doesn’t have an Apple Watch complication (or app) available and so to have a similar feature working with Tesla, one has to buy a third-party app. I use Stats that has additional features besides adding an Apple Watch app and an Apple Watch complication. It doesn’t require a subscription, but it’s an expensive app.

I enabled it through ABRP. I think it’s Tronity. It doesn’t cost anything extra. It’s included in the ABRP Premium subscription. It didn’t work until recently, but it has been working for a few weeks now.

Tap on the ABRP icon in the upper left corner and then tap on the current car (with a VW logo to the left of it), tap on "Edit settings", scroll down to where it says "In-car live data". That's where your Bluetooth connection is. Below it, you will see "Over-the-air live data". That's where you can establish a link over cellular data via the ABRP Premium Connection.

Not sure about the widget, but the ABRP Apple Watch complication has several versions. One of them shows the SOC and the parked location, but for whatever reason it mostly shows "Unknown Location" except when it's parked in my garage, when it shows the correct street name. Another ABRP complication shows the SOC and the last update timestamp. This is the one that I chose for my Apple Watch, as I'm tired of seeing "Unknown Location" under the SOC. The timestamp is helpful, as you can tell if this is a recent SOC.

Yeah, I didn't know about that over-the-air live data option. It's actually a nice complication to add to an Apple Watch display. So much easier to glance at my watch than pulling out my phone and authenticating in MyVW to get my car's current SOC.

Also, it is handy for using ABRP when I'm not in the car since it will always have the car's current SOC. I find myself whipping out ABRP periodically to look at spontaneous trip ideas and it would be nice to have that SOC be accurate when I do.

Thanks for the tip, @truthseeker

It does show it on the binnacle in software version 3.1. But, this particular thread is about being able to see real-time SOC on the Apple Watch.

Got the same email today. Too bad. Back to the Bluetooth dongle.
