I reserved a red AWD ID.4 Pro S Plus on August 31, 2022. Since 12/11/2022 it has been at "Order Confirmed by Factory" status. Last Friday, upon finding out about Tesla's price reductions, I ordered a blue Tesla Model Y Long Range. My wife and I are scheduled to take delivery this Saturday, 1/21/2023. Here are some of my reasons for the switch.
Real world range around this time of year....i have one for couple days 278 best i got from 100-1% SOC...it is way less than EPA when used on interstate speeds.
But if long trips are important to you...it is still great value and ability to use Tesla charging network.

Yes, clearly $1,000 with installation.

Installation was 30 minutes. Well documented on YouTube and easy.
I thought you were talking about this one:

The company responded to me that they would be adding CarPlay to this binnacle.

Yes for sure ID4 gives low miles/Kwh than MY.
This increases charging trips, and the long wait lines at charging station, poor network of Electrify America, slow chargers, does not make your time worth it.
And charging 20%-80% means battery usage is just 60% of capacity. The advertised 262 miles is no 80% but since usage is only 50%, the miles is much less sadly.
Just wish, I knew ID4 fine marketing print earlier, I'd thought VW builds good vehicles, guess MY has proved otherwise.

You probably didn't drive MY for some time to find out that is delivering in real world range around 270 miles on full charge....so there is not big difference between Tesla Y and ID4....
Tesla makes EPA numbers that are impossible to be reached in real world situation.
There are many drivers that drive vehicles without being stingy on cabin comfort or trying to hyper mile when driving. Tesla are efficient in city speeds but on interstate speeds they under delivere by great margin if cabin comfort and interstate speeds are followed....and i would love to hear from you what MY had proven otherwise?...i just come off 1 month long rental on 2023 Model Y long range.

Thank you for response.
We are VW family with cars. I think with ID4 powertrain efficiency and battery, it’s lagging behind. with e-golf I’d thought ID4 would be a showcase but looks like I am wrong.
Also why is ID4 heavier than MY, causes drag and low mileage.
i atleast hope battery lasts.

If you have a long commute or for some reason can’t charge at home, take the MY. If software is important to you in an automobile, such as being able to unlock your doors with an app take the MY. If you have short trips and can charge at home and software is not important, the ID.4 is a good car. My wife loves her ID.4, I would sell it in a heartbeat to get a MY if it was my primary driver.

so does it mean you would prefer MY ?

Agreed that the MY has the Supercharger network and ID4 has Electrify America which can be spotty. (Will MY owners stop using EA chargers while there are Superchargers everywhere else. I don't understand that when usually there is a Supercharger next to a EA 🤦‍♂️)
Also ID4 has Apple Car Play and Android Auto!!!!
And a behind steering wheel display.

Yep it’s time lost in charging - number of trips to charging stations and time at stations. MY being lighter vehicle, has a leg up in game here.

The dealbreaker for me for going with ID.4 instead of MY was lack of a normal dashboard. I heard from people that you can get use to the central iPad but I figured that I don’t want to spend lots of money and be forced to get used to something impractical.

I do believe that Musk on purpose chose to remove the clocks behind the steering wheel to make of MY poor man’s version of MX and keep the prices of MX and MS artificially inflated. That counts also for active suspension. He wouldn't have to go for full pneumatic suspension. He could add something like VW AG has in their Audi's, Seat's and Skoda's. Active (non-pneumatic) suspension that adjust the stiffness to your driving style is just a few hundred euros option. But that again would make difference between MY/M3 vs MX/MS smaller and could undermine the sales of the most expensive Tesla's. (Which are terribly overpriced imho but that is another story.)

If MY would have normal clocks I’d go for it.

The problem is that in Europe police and politicians are obsessed with control of maximum speed so you have to keep continuous attention to how fast you drive. Even on a German autobahn the speed limits are changed ever 10/15 kms and the pieces without any speed limits are almost non existent. So I want or actually MUST have the the speed in km/h displayed in a place where I can control it without much effort like it is done in ID.4.

That single difference makes it evident that ID.4 has been developed by Europeans and for Europeans while MY more for cruising on the interstates.

There is no easy way to make a car $10k cheaper to build. You cannot remove one component that costs $10,000. You remove 20 components that cost $100 -$1000 each. The instrument cluster with wiring etc. costs a lot of money.

In Canada MY is still more expensive, even after the price cut and its not eligible for rebate so as per me, ID4 is the way to go. If in US, there is not too much difference in price, it goes to people's liking. I may seriously consider MY.
I just got my first VW, the ID4 Pro S, OTD difference between Standard MY is ~ $14K. I think at the end of the day personal preference matters, although I did go back and forth due to peer pressures LOL. Tesla is a tech company making cars while VW an automaker trying to catch-up on tech. Being an owner of a 911, performance was not top of mind and for me price delta was big to justify MY perks.

I agree, currently they reduced MY price in Canada as well, making it a bit closer to ID4.

Some dumb people do bad comparison, I mean if you want to compare entry level ID4 then compare it with similar feature, entry level MY or any other car. When you compare fully loaded ID4 with entry level, small battery MY with which you can not even choose color or interior for free. Though they may feel in similar price range, they are not.

MY starts at 59k in Canada vs ID4 standard starts at 46k and ID4 pro starts at 49k. Now with ID4 you can get a few colors for free but MY only in white. Canada has optional heat pump at 1.5k but even after adding that ID4 is cheaper than MY.

Just today morning I noticed a MY, wrapped in Military Green color and passenger door alignment was so off, you feel something must be wrong with the door but then you realize its made by Tesla, what can you expect.

I've been driving my 2023 MYLR for about a month now. Austin build. No flaws in car at all. I drive lots of roads on my daily commute with little divets and cracks in the pavement. Far from smooth pavement. You can feel some of those bumps in the road, but not a deal breaker for me and frankly not bad. As I understand it, the next Y refresh will add further suspension refinements. For me suspension is 'ok' but not phenominal.

Interior is quiet and roomy. I especially like the seats and space the center console affords. Pickup or instant torgue in this car is just insane compared to ICE cars. I don't like people crowding me on the road, so if I pick up someone too close on my rear, I give the car a little acceleration and it pulls away like a rocket. This isn't even the performance version of the car and it's plenty.

I am charging to 83% at home pretty much every evening. I use sentinal to record around my car during the day and I find no large drain on the battery. My beginning range at 83% SOC is usually 275 miles or close to that.Stated est full range is 330 miles at 100%. I realize these numbers are not accurate. I generally look more at percentages instead. Never had any worry about not having enough range. Have even made a few unexpected trips in a day with zero range anxiety. Always plenty enough to get back home with lots of super chargers around if I need one.

More room in the car than any other EV I can think of unless we are comparing the larger Rivians or similar. I like the one pedal driving. Two OTA software updates since delivery. One of my favorite additions has been now I can map my left steering wheel control to many things. I chose to map mine to my temperature control because sometimes I will get in the car and the temp feels great initially, but after a few minutes I'll want to change it. I could use voice control as well. I use voice control a lot for my wipers, frunk, trunk, and charge port because I use a non Tesla charger at home. Many other things can be voice controlled but I haven't looked very deepely into all of it yet. Speed limit is up high in NA models. Easily seen. No need for a dash screen for me.

Biggest dislike so far is the bugs that stick to the front, especially after a night drive haha. I keep a bottle of bug and tar removal handy in the garage. It's a white car. I had PPF installed on the front of the car which makes my daily bug clean up ritual easier.

I haven't found an ID.4 to drive. It seems like it would be a nice more traditional car that is best suited for shorter distances. If I get really bored I can watch for people walking by on sentinal using the Tesla app, and when they get close I can make the car fart. I have to be really bored for that one.
