I suppose Blue Cruise installed over OTA on early (1Q'21) MMEs this summer s nothing.

VW has failed as a company to deliver on their commitments, but I think the bigger failure to the owners of the id.4 is the absolutely atrocious communications with the customers. I would be happier with the situation I am in with this car if they would communicate directly. When will I actually be able to schedule the update?

PS I would suggest a further read of the 3/21/21press release, it was a Worldwide release.
I am convinced you would not listen to VW communication either: I have been on this forum for a while now, and, so far, you have been all negativity and complaints, even when people have tried their best to inform you constructively - in short, regardless of the communication provided to you, you extrapolate the negative and insist on beating the same old drums.

That is most likely what is rubbing people the wrong way. Two main types of people exist in this world, when distilled to its basics: People, who (also) focus on the positive and make the best of a given situation, and people who do not - the latter get tiring after a while. I might be wrong about you, but on this forum, you have been the latter with great consistency.

Do yourself a favour and read the previous posts of people, you so eloquently refer to as "apologist": They have the same complaints as you, but they complain constructively by balancing their argumentation with what is great about the car and when and why any minor and major bugs may or may not be an actual, everyday issue.

You are assuming VW itself knows when the update will be available. And I doubt they would want to publicize a date - knowing they will have trouble meeting it.

I think we will know more after a period of time when the European cars are being updated successfully.

While Ford has released several OTA updates for the MME, BlueCruise cannot be activated and fully used until a dealership update is completed to update all of the modules. This process takes 2 full days with the vehicle plugged into a terminal at the dealership. This is not the first service campaign Ford has had to complete for the MME and so far most of them have been at least a 2 day to 14 day dealership visit. While I would love to have some sort of update from VW, I’d rather have one visit to my dealer and drop my car off for a day as compared to going weeks without my car. So if VW is in shambles and taking its time to get this right and make sure it goes smoothly, I’m okay waiting because my ID.4 still functions as a pretty good car.

I now plan to just be surprised, as this gent:
And yes, regardless v2.1, it does function as a very good vehicle. :)

Actually, since I also own a MME, I can say this is not true. It has 14,000 mile on it and the last time it was at the dealership for an update was in 2Q 2021.

The update campaign for the 2.4 software is also sometimes difficult.
Normally if everything works out, the dealer visit is fixed within 2 days, but sometimes a much longer visit to the dealer is needed.
First and foremost, it has to do with the dealer's knowledge and experience.
In addition, the update of some cars crashes and the car dies until they find a solution through support from VW Germany

In the past you just had a blown fuse or light now and then :giggle:

In Europe, the Ford owners are still waiting for their first OTA update.
All brands are still in their infancy with OTA.
Either your life is meaningless and you buy Tesla:sneaky:

The hardware platform of traditional carmakers is not suitable for OTA updates. They use many small modules that need to be updated separately. This is in contrast with Tesla, which has basically a consumer grade personal computer controlling most car functions. At this point, I won't be surprised if I don't get any updates from VW during my 39 month lease.

European cars are being updated now. We will probably start this fall.
You might be right, at this point none of us know. Sure, VW has promised it, but they've been promising it for over a year. Given that Europe has gotten other updates to their MY21 cars that the US hasn't, I'm truly in wait and see mode ans skeptical that the US MY 21 cars will be updated. Too many dates blown through.

Thats great that you got a MME that was not effected by any of the numerous recalls, stop sales, service campaigns, or other numerous concerns with the platform since launch. If you have no issues with the car that’s great, but there are just as many complaints readily available to find online. We all can pick our poison and I like this one. You can like what you like, but you can’t say the MME hasn’t had issues.

VWG in Germany will likely pay the tab, not USA dealerships, just as any warranty/recall/TSB (regardless their not referring to it as same).

I really don't think it is purposeful "dragging their feet" but rather code and installation that has not gone to plan (now a number of plans) in Europe thus far and hence further USA delay.

I still think VWG wants to get the USA v2.1-> upgrade right and thereby avoid "I waited so long for this?!" negative feedback. Yes, that's probably an overly sympathetic and optimistic viewpoint, but it makes me feel better than the opposite. 🤷‍♂️
Due to dealership situation in the US, it will cost VW hundreds or thousands of dollars per car to do this update. I won't be surprised if they keep dragging their feet.

I suspect the 1st real sign of anything for the US market will be the announcement of a service campaign. But I don't expect that to happen until they have had a chance to actually get 3.x rolling out in Europe, and be able to demonstrate that the process is largely problem free.

I would also note that the issue is really limited to the 2021 cars - the 2022 were updated in port to 3.x.
