It is definitely not like Honda unfortunately. Each dealer or franchised dealer have their own warranty provider and most of them suck or don’t even cover the most expensive part of an EV or even an EV.

They only cover EVs. Definitely recommend reading the FAQ at the bottom.

There is this tidbit of info:
“Since the main HV Battery and Drive Units being covered by separate and generally longer warranty from the manufacturer, XCare does not provide double coverage there. However, our team is working tirelessly to create the first comprehensive Battery and Drive Unit warranty extension for EV owners in the near future. This offering will be available to all current and future XCare members. So if you already have XCare, don’t you worry!”

Thank you, this is helpful. Unfortunately VW doesn't offer the longer warranty for drivetrain. It is 4 years/50k miles. I encourage anyone who wants to keep this car beyond that to get a drivetrain warranty.

I think VW has standard extended coverage, like any automaker. The dealer will try to sell you their product from a third party, which has much higher margins for them. I thought someone might have experience with VW's OEM extended warranty.

 

When we went to pick up our 2023 ID4 in Dec 2022, the dealer put the hard sell for the VW OEM warranty while we were in the office trying to close the paperwork. The pitch was that you were spending $50K so why wouldn't you spend a little more to protect yourself from excessive repair cost? Had to sign prior to delivery...no option to purchase after you drove off the lot.
From my perspective, the reason they put you on the spot for the impulse purchase is the value is not there. If there was value, why not tell you about it anywhere in the 5 or 10 emails arranging closing paperwork, or a separate advance email detailing coverage options and cost? I found the whole experience stressful and aggravating. I declined. We will see how my gamble pays off...or not.

The quotes I got from xcelerateauto seemed very reasonable, especially the long term $100 deductable

the only part I don't like is, while the warrantee is transferrable in a private sale, it's not transferrable on a trade through a dealer
