Reston, VA — Volkswagen of America, Inc., announced today the offer structure for the 2025 ID. Buzz, the electric reincarnation of the iconic Microbus. The ID. Buzz will be offered stateside in three trims—Pro S and Pro S Plus, along with a launch-only 1st Edition—with a 91 kWh battery and 282 horsepower for rear-wheel drive models; 4Motion® all-wheel-drive models will have maximum horsepower of 335. Range and pricing will be announced closer to launch.
Retro design cues modernized for today’s times—like the oversized VW logo, short overhangs, and expansive greenhouse—give the ID. Buzz an unmistakable look outside. All ID. Buzz models are equipped with 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. Dual power-sliding rear doors with available Easy Open and Close provide excellent access to the third row and are replete with a modern take on the classic sliding windows, which are nowalso fully powered. Three-door KESSY® advance keyless access with proximity unlocking and a power tailgate with available Easy Open/Close allows easy access for passengers and their belongings.
A rainbow of exterior colors will be available, dependent on trim level. Two-tone options will either pair a Candy White top with Energetic Orange, Pomelo Yellow, Blue Charcoal, Mahi Green, Metro Silver, Cabana Blue or Indium Grey below; or a Metro Silver top with Cherry Red below. Three single-tone options will be offered as well: Metro Silver, Candy White, and Deep Black Pearl.
Inside, three different color worlds accentuate the coolness of the modern Microbus, and are carefully curated to complement the exterior colors. At this time, these interiors are unique to the North American models. The variety of interior and exterior color combinations will allow customers to express themselves with their ID. Buzz. Moonlight, a moody dark interior, includes dark brown leatherette seats with white piping, blue door inserts and a dark wood-look dash, paired with black headliner. Dune, a bright, airy, coastal-inspired interior, pairs light grey leatherette seats with clay-colored piping, clay door inserts, and a light wood-look dash. Copper, the final combination, gives mid-century modern vibes with rich brown leatherette seats with yellow piping, brown door inserts, and a washed wood-look dash.
The tailored interior boasts an array of standard technology, including an 12.9-inch infotainment display, 5.3-inch ID. Cockpit digital instrument cluster, 30-color ambient lighting, ID. Light driver support system, wireless phone charging and wireless App-Connect. Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE® advanced driver assistance technology is standard, and features hands-on semi-automated capability, including driver-initiated lane changes where the vehicle can complete a lane change maneuver with Travel Assist activated. In addition, all ID. Buzz models feature Park Assist Plus with Memory Parking.
Pro S models will be available in rear-wheel drive only, with a bench seat to accomodate up to seven passengers. Pro S Plus and 1st Edition models offer both rear-wheel- and 4Motion all-wheel-drive configurations. On Pro S Plus rear-wheel-drive models, bench seating is standard, with an available captain’s chair package with seating for six. Rear-wheel-drive 1st Edition models only offer a rear bench. On both Pro S Plus and 1st Edition 4Motion models, captain’s chairs come standard.
Pro S Plus models level up the ID. Buzz experience with standard premium content. A head-up display will project key information in front of the driver, and Area View uses the car’s cameras to supplement the driver’s view of what is around the vehicle. Audiophiles will appreciate the 700-watt harman/kardonTM sound system boasting nine speakers. An available Flexboard, with two fabric storage bins, creates a flat floor when the seats are folded. A manually-retractable tow hitch adds functionality and is completely hidden behind the rear bumper when retracted—tow ratings and full specifications will be available closer to launch. The wide-open greenhouse can be further enhanced by an available electrochromic panoramic glass roof, which can change from transparent to opaque with the swipe of a finger.
The launch-only 1st Edition is based on the Pro S trim. Available only with two-tone exterior, 1st Edition adds unique 20-inch wheels, roof rail cross bars, and 1st Edition badging outside. Inside, all 1st Edition models are equipped with the coastal-inspired interior, heritage-inspired floor mats, and exclusive 1st Edition owner’s gifts. The 1st Edition adds the electrochromic panoramic glass roof, Area View, 700-watt harman/kardonTM sound system, Flexboard, and easy/open sliding doors & tailgate.

do we know? is the 'front valence bumper dingy' of the awd the same design as the one for the standard rwd? >> was hoping for more than just a badge to visually distinguish between the two and where is the black interior with red stitching? and do the roof-mounted cross bars (1st edition) increase the height (by how much?) and are 21 inch wheels optional? all will be forgiven however if there is going to be an R model based on ssp platform on the horizon and let's not for get to deduct ~20% real world range in Q1 and zone 6.

The US model will be, I think, very close to the Euro long wheelbase version in most mechanical respects. No reason they should change that. So that means all the charging curve, etc. should be close to the same as well.

I hope that they revise the software baseline by the time they go live here in the US. Anything 4.0 and before at this point, as it has been the baseline in Europe, is already too slow and out of date.

I expect the pricing to start in the high $40k range and go up quickly. I bet the top of the line prices out well north of $60k.

For what it’s worth, the ID.7 Tourer - announced about the same time as the ID.Buzz awd - is running 5.0.

As to the prices, those are below European prices (of the RWD Buzz), but who knows..

Well, you can get a Kia EV9 as you said before, the Buzz will NOT be a van that everyone can afford, it will be low volume and expensive so there. If you have the money it will be a van that will make many people happy with their choice… or not, Personally don’t care, the only reason I replied was because of the comparison that you were trying to achieve, made no sense to me. No let go some important stuff 😊

Well, people can compare things based on many things. I personally find availability vs. non-availability a more relevant thing for a comparison over 3-row SUV vs. 3-row minivan. Obviously, YMMV:)

You do get my point. It will be an expensive, low volume, niche product that will hold its value very poorly. More practical, but course-wise likely similar to the Cybertruck.

If you convert the European prices (~73K EUR) to USD (~$79K USD) then subtract about 20% VAT, it looks like the European RWD LWB starts at ~63K USD equivalent.

My bet is on the AWD US versions starting at ~$67,900 with AWD First Editions a little more (~$69,000) as they come basically loaded.

I originally thought these would be north of $90K MSRP, but that doesn't look to be the case now. Anyone disagree?

EDIT: I also see that AWD/GTX Euro prices are available at 78K EUR, which would convert to ~$67K USD by the same math (which is NOT reliable!)

Good questions, but there are a ton of factors here, and it's still pretty unclear how and why they set pricing as they do. Recall that US ID.4s are now made locally, but the Buzz will be made in Germany only to start. And it is indeed typical for US market models to have more set options (packages), whereas Euro models often start with less equipment but have higher trims and options available that we don't get in the US.

So, you're probably right that they're not exactly comparable, but what more can we do for now with VW being radio silent on price?

not sure if this math translates that well. But $68K would be reasonable in my view. But if it were reasonable, they would have advertised it already. So I expect it to be higher.

The market. Post rebate/tax cut my 2023 AWD ProS was ~$45.5K. I don't think I could sell it for more than $35K now. With the revival of the used market and other 3rd row EV competition, I'd expect the value of the Buzz to fall even more markedly. Unlike during COVID, people can totally wait it out now.

Still a draw and an exciting car for the enthusiasts.

The US always get VW new models around 2 years later ( Electric or not) that’s actually a thing, less features than the Europeans counterparts, sometimes less cool lighting, MK7 GTI was a good example compared to what they had in Europe, Matrix lighting still illegal in the states after so many years etc…
Pricing is never comparable to the states.

The paint robot has 11 colors in its tanks, but only a small subset of the color combinations are possible.

Customer should have choice of single-tone or two-tone, and any combination of the 11 colors. What is the problem, are they masking the two-tone versions by hand? And even if so, then an up-charge for the two-tone combo would make sense, but then I still should be able to choose any colors the robot can spray.

I'm carrying a strong suspicion that the VWoA marketing geniuses have a hand in this.

Was at VW dealer in Denver today, just passing through, and the sales guy let me glance at their list of allocated Buzz models.

Interesting that they already know the ones they are scheduled to get. It makes sense, right? One would imagine that for purposes of component scheduling, assembly, shipping, etc. they would plan this out a long time in advance.

Also interesting is that out of the two or so dozen I saw on the list, they are all AWD; only one RWD. That seems to be normal in Colorado where everybody wants AWD because of our terribly snowy winters.

Anyway I told him I would be interested in the RWD one when it comes in. It's a Pro S Plus, but no other info on the configuration. For example, whether it is configured as 6- or 7-seater. Also I don't think the tire sizes have been announced, which is an important consideration for a RWD car because we need special winter tires for the terrible snowy Colorado winters.

thanks Dougie01.
do we know yet , is there a hard design distinction of the front apron bumper between the awd and the rwd or is there just a unique badging? and also consider a (probably) larger awd turning ratio and also likely higher awd front tire wear due to higher front end weight and rwd could still be the better option even in Co and somebody needs to put awd vs rwd thru the paces under challenging but equal conditions.

You can configure a LWB Buzz on the German VW site, and then save it to your U.S. MyVW account. However, at that point it appears to go into a Black Hole. I can't figure out how to get it back out again. You can print it out from the German site, though.

The German LWB RWD has various tire options. The 20" (which seems to be the standard U.S. size) is 235-50 front and 265-45 rear. The Continental EcoContact 6 Q comes stock on the German car but that tire is not available in the U.S. The Nokian Hakkapelittaa 10 studded tire is available in those sizes which is all I really care about.

The solid orange paint job appears to conflict with a lot of things including interior colors (must be black) and rear seat heating (not available). Strange. I don't see what the color of the paint used by the painting robot has to do with anything else.

Focus group mathematics. I ran into that with VW and Toyota a gazillion years ago. "That's what the factory builds and ships, and that's what we can sell you," was the answer in both cases.
