You can use Lastpass and it will keep the pin and type it for you, so to use car-net you just need to put your finger on the sensor twice

 

I agree it is annoying, especially when you only own one VW. Although even if I owned 2 or 3, why would need a PIN for each vehicle? I also use LastPass and with faceID it is super quick and easy to log in and then enter the PIN - except of course for those times where I am indoors with a facemask, like near the end of a game and I want to start warming the car. But all in all, first-world problems.

 

Yup - I use 1Password, and it'll do it, and even FaceID will do it if it works. But it just seems like a waste of time. Too much security for the situation.

 

I agree, I already need to be logged in to my phone so that security threshold seems sufficient to activate my climatization. Thankfully I can just use the fingerprint sensor so it's relatively painless. Still, a total of three authentications of the same type is beyond redundant.

For anyone with children, if they can login to your phone then they'd be able to play with the car.

I'm using Face ID so a tap and look at the phone (which I'm already doing anyway) and I'm in.

 

You can't use the "for the kids" argument here. I'd a parent wants to allow that, it's up to them. If they want to enable a separate Car-Net login pin, that should be an option.

For the first year using BMW's app, I couldn't take a screenshot of the app on Android because I could potentially, inadvertently share my location on social media or with my stalker, since the vehicle's location is shown on the home screen. Thankfully they realized they were being unnecessary nannies. But I still have to provide a thumb print to unlock my doors.

Sometimes you have to think like a roomful of high-paid attorneys whose job is to advise VW on potential liability issues.

 

And, VW, this doesn't even take an OTA update to accomplish . . .

 

So much of the design of this car is about eliminating unnecessary steps. Opening the doors without unlocking, driving without turning the car on first. No need to turn it off, etc.

But they jam extra steps into the app? We need those car designers to get in touch with the software team.
