I am having the same issues. Navigation has no idea where I am. This issue started several months ago. They decided it was the module. The module was on backorder, so I just got it replaced a couple of weeks ago. The Navigation worked fine for about a week. Now it isn't working again. I took it in for another service appointment on Tuesday. They said it was a satellite issue and there was nothing they could do.
The "satellite issue" doesn't make much sense on first pass, it sounds like they are grasping for an excuse since they don't know how to troubleshoot further. I recommend talking with the service manager and reaching out VW Customer CARE. Perhaps try another dealer if they are not too far away, any location should be able to cover this under bumper-bumper(4yr/50k).

Sorry to hear that. Not a good sign when the problem spans several model years. I wonder if the 2024 model has updated anything here or if we will continue seeing reports of this issue.

Count me among those whose GPS isn't working. How do I avoid getting the run-around at the dealer? I'm especially concerned b/c when I reset my infotainment system, then GPS temporarily worked again, only to break a few days later. I'm worried that dealer will "fix" the problem, only for it to come up again. Questions:
  • How can you replicate the problem in front of the dealer, other than through the map? Once again, the map temporarily fixes, so I'd like to duplicate the problem in additional ways. For example, when I set "current location" on the charging menu, that also produces the wrong location. Are there other ways to show the dealer that the GPS isn't working?
  • Do I ask for a "mobile phone control module" or "5F control module"? Or are those the same thing?
Thanks for any suggestions!

I took a video on my cell phone and that was sufficient but they didn’t ask. The dealer likely has encountered this before and will do their own tests. For me, I reported this to my dealer in January and I’m still waiting on the part. I got so used to Car Play during this time that I forgot the issue existed and noticed 2 weeks ago I tried to use the GPS and it’s working and no issues. No clue when it “fixed” itself or how long this will last.

My recommendation is to go to the dealer ASAP so the parts could at least be ordered.

Bad news on the below repair from less than 5 months ago. Nav is back on the fritz already - back to driving across lakes, through the woods and the routine dynamic speed limit sign warnings, fortunately it has not yet crossed into different time zones but like last time I am sure that will be coming soon. I am hanging tight until the newest recall software is ready and will bring it up then.

VW needs to get this figured out as it's not just ID.4, looking around the Atlas and Tiguan owners are a very vocal bunch about this problem.

Update - picked my car up after ~3.5 hours and it is appearing to be corrected with a new module that they must have had in stock. Nav showing correct location for my drive home and another drive after resting for ~45 minutes.

Notes from ticket:

25093 emergency call module ran gff ran fault for emergency call module. attempted to perform software configuration was unsuccessful replaced call module, performed adaptation, test drove vehicle and gps is operating to design.

Volkswagen ID.4 Mobile Phone Control Module. TELEMATICS - 11A035285C | Wisconsin

Seems to be called a "Mobile Phone Control Module" - not sure if this CarNet module or something else, just plugging parts numbers into Google.

**Edit. Work done at Jim Ellis VW in Chamblee (Atlanta). Seems they are very well versed on this issue, they are highest volume VW and ID.4 dealer in state of Georgia and seem to back that up with their service work.

I have that issue as well in my new 2024 Pro S.

Well it appears that VW is now blaming this issue on Verizon, nothing wrong with my car according to the dealership, nothing they can do. But this morning they wanted 3 hours with my car to do nothing. That and no techs until 30 minutes after my first of the day scheduled appointment. To say I drove away pissed would be putting it mildly.
Guess VW has lost a customer for life as has the dealership (and all their other brand locations as well).

Your dealer (among many) is full of crap and many others report VW blaming it on the owners phone. Simple troubleshooting step that escapes them is to leave all phones out of the car and drive around to see that it's a car problem. Currently with my internal nav wonky my phone maps (Google, Apple Maps & ABRP) work just fine and dandy.

I feel like there is some defect with the GPS module that has gone unchecked for multiple years not to mention across pretty much every model they sell that has internal nav.

It's exactly the same for me. Android auto and Google maps work flawlessly. I'm not so sure I really miss having the ID.4 nav at all.

Took my broken GPS in, but the dealer said no fix (see below). She said that six months ago they were replacing modules to try to fix this problem, but that this "solution" wasn't actually fixing everybody's car, so they stopped doing that unless an "error code" appeared during diagnostics. She said she expects a service campaign, eventually.

Does anyone have a rough count of exactly how many recalls and service campaigns we've been forced to endure so far?

Does anyone know if this is about even with competitive brands with similar products?

We could all energize and engage with all the other VW model owners experiencing the same exact thing and flood VWoA with complaints. I think my VWVortex login might still be active and I have an active account on the Taos forums. I would be willing to stir some feathers on my end to try to gather folks to send complaints to VWoA.
