ID.4 Stop Sale in effect?!? (Aug. 19, 2024)

Just returned from the dealer with my POS ID.4 towed dead (many lights, no drive). Car says "low voltage 12V system problem", 12V battery is fine, VW service stated blown "main fuse, guess it is a pyro fuse" but nobody know fo sure, EV tech is out for a week, "most likely need new battery, will know when EV tech is back". What a $hit show.

I was considering to offer them trade at Lemon Law price for new one. Dealer says that even if they want to - they can't because Stop Sales in effect. And that Lemos handeled by corporate and not by local dealer.

Anybody can confirm if Stop Sale really in effect?
If true - what is the reason?

I was out on a cruise this weekend, but I got a notification from CarFax that the recall was out and this morning, being back onshore with cellular, I can also see that the recall is showing up in my app.

Ironically the fire risk is about the 12v battery, nothing to do with the LiIon traction battery!

There’s a new Door Handle recall that includes 21-24 model year and that seems to mean they can’t sell new or used ID.4s including MY 2024 as of today. But I would still check with a dealer!
There is also a recall for some 2023 and 2024 due to air bag issues... 24V643000
Can confirm. Enquired about leasing a 2024 today and was told about the stop sale due to door handle issues (57J9)
This is terrible. 😞 A very bad time to be a VW dealer. Does anyone know if their ICE vehicles are experiencing this? Is it happening in Europe? Will it affect the Buzz (parts commonality)?

A search on J949 gives many here calling it telematics module which is a good label (better than OCU), and sadly has many failures reported, like this one:
With that in mind, it seems like VW has a known issue with the Telematics module. You may have heard it referred to as the Car-Net module, emergency call module, or referred to it by it module number: J949.

The module is a known issue among VW techs for being a common hang up for the software update. Most drivers won't know there is an issue until they bring their car in for the recall and then their vehicle could be parked for an unknown amount of time. That's where I am. But I also have a hard fault with the car telling me, "SOS Emergency Call Function Not Available: See Dealer." Because of that hard fault I can't take my car home because it's technically a safety fault.
More:
A search on J666 gives no results about failures of it, so that is good or else the repairs never call it that.

And the yet to be released fix for crashing infotainment would likely update ICAS3.
It will likely need to update ICAS1 also, since the recall mentions the instrument panel display blanking out too, which is a more serious problem.
Well,

1. according to VW 3.7 is only fixes and optimizations,

2. if you complain to VW in Europe about your screens blacking out, the official fix is to update your car to 3.7 in-shop.

Yes, for @Sal.Pro that part in red is the answer to their question about stop sales on 2023. The fix wasn't implemented in production cars until production the 23rd week of 2023, which is probably about the time they started making 2024's. The VIN range is included in the document as well. So the dealers will have no problem knowing what cars are affected and therefore not able to be sold.

Definitely mandatory in the US, but also (as you speculate) not a widespread occurrence, with the problem affecting 1% of the 88,000 ID.4s on US & Canadian roads.

BTW regardless of state's laws, VW will not allow their dealers to sell a used vehicle with an open recall (see 1st document 2nd paragraph text in red).

June 2023: Definitive root cause in the requested VOQ field vehicles could not be established.
July 2023: Volkswagen confirmed that highly sporadic faults based on diverse root causes will be fixed, either directly if identifiable or by robustness measures.
February 2024: Planned software rollout in the field were presented to the NHTSA.
April 2024: NHTSA conveyed its position that the failures affect FMVSS compliance and need to be addressed by a recall.

This is one of those software defects that's tricky to assess.

I'll bet 100% of the vehicles COULD experience the failure but the RATE at which the failure occurs is quite low, perhaps less than once per 1000 miles driven so many folks can truly report that they've never seen the defect arise.

Atlant, thanks for schooling me, no problem, you are correct. :)

Original bill:

Changed to :

New one already passed and waiting to be signed by Governor.

Notable change: Option B is gone. Now in NY used vehicles recalls must be addressed before sale, period.

Another fallout pickle: Extra expense of maintaining registration and insurance on the car that is indefinitely in the shop:

My car towed dead. After some significant argument they offered loaner with long tale how nice they are to me to offer courtesy car and that I'm responsible for gas. I find this really amusing! No matter that I have EV.
Dealer's loaner comes with agreement to allow GPS tracking of me, photocopy of both sides of my driver license AND CREDIT CARD (not just pre-authorized, scanned and stored!) No terms articulated initially, I have to ask for it. I did ask, and after about hour - they produced (only partial) agreements terms where they have none of their responsibilities, but I am agreed to share ALL information they collect with whoever they wish, including my GPS track. I'm sure that somewhere also buried no sue agreement similar to Disney's.

I would like to have spare car, but I still have my ICE, screw that agreement, I did not sign.

Now I would like stop wasting money on insurance while car is int he shop, but was told by the dealer that they rely on my insurance and I cannot cancel or suspend it while car is at the dealer. I feel strongly that this is not fair.

Monitor blackout safety recall make sense, if all years have the same issue. I recall seeing infotainment screen on later models and it does not look much like mine '22. Is all years affected by screen blackout? Is hardware the same? (later software obviously different).

But again, so far this is a speculation. Anybody with hard knowledge can comment on it? Is it true, is it total ('24 included), and the cause? (screen blackout is most probable suspect).

I have occasional blackout and random resets, maybe couple times a month. More often on start with delay to rear view while pulling out. Most often I had to wait for camera to come back. I also had a few blackouts while driving. My perception is more of annoyance, like most other issues, as long as car still driveable and controllable. Mine biggest time waster is "new settings available" and it is very frequent, sometimes a few times a day but more often couple times a week. All of this does not add love for this car.

I would swear that once I got message about OTA update started (message lasted like one second), while driving, and screen was out for full minute or two. I was sure it is a goner, but it came back in a few. All of this while driving. You see, my tolerance is pretty high. Absolute red line is when car cannot move. That line is crossed.

No, the links I gave above in post #2 discuss the recall in detail. And post #8 above repeats the recall info, its official and not speculation after NTHSA issued the recall number 24V344 back in May. Its only for 21-23 years. The infotainment hardware on 24s is slightly different, and a newer software version, and not recalled (yet.) I don't remember posts from 24 owners having screen going black, but many people here post with no info about what year and model car they have.

Which is silly to me, because I don't think I've ever seen the problem. They claim it's fixed in the software in the 2024 baseline, so in theory maybe the new OTA going out is a precursor to whatever the fix is here. But if you were holding out for a new ID, I'd press for a 2024 vs a 2023. New motor, new software, better efficiency, etc.

Sorry you've had so many troubles with yours. Can't say we've had any of those problems other than generally lousy VW service.

For that particular issue, the fix in Europe is TPI 2069422/3 issued in June. Car is updated to 3.7. Only available as an in-shop fix, and only to users who complain and document the issue. Software 3.7 is not otherwise offered (yet?). Some users have complained about issues with Car Play post-update.

TPI 2069422/3 dated June 12, 2024 - Steering wheel display and/or infotainment display black (no displays) or display frozen. The TPI provides software 3.6.2 (3.7).

Google translated from this page, second to last TPI listed. TPI (Technische Produkt Information) - VW ID Forum

As it took well over a year for Volkswagen to introduce the TPI to fix "new settings available" -bug to the US (it was available in Europe spring 2023), expect to see a fix for the displays sometime in summer 2025.

Right, aware of that 2023 models stop sale. Then the thing is today - none can be sold, period, or so I was told. I fully expect that it maybe some kind of play by the dealer, to get rid of me bugging them to replace my POS that they cannot fix. So far. Will see how it goes.
With many little things that wrong with it, and persistent complains to the dealer that never addressed, I pacified myself that ID.4 is still a good and reliable vehicle, never got me stranded (disregarding public fast charging fiasco). That myth busted itself last week. $hit show that followed, dealing with the Roadside Assistance the the dealer, make me solid, if I manage to get rid of this car, to never consider another VW again. And this is as much about car as about their treatment of their customers, that I see is very consistent through a few dealerships I've dealt with. I no longer like to be treated as worthless pleb. I do have Audi and occasionally go there for service, the difference is that Audi's dealership treats you as respectful idiot, but at least there are manners and respect. At VW, once moneys dispensed - you are worthless to the dealer, you become annoyance. No matter how expensive and new your car is.

I’m having a similar bad experience. Our leased POS ID.4 was hit in Jan but driveable until parts came in. That took 6 months (!). Took it in Jul 3 and it’s still there. Last part won’t come in till Sep we’re now told. So yes, (1) never a VW again and (2) will avoid EVs until it’s the only f’ing choice but hopefully I’ll be 6 feet under by then.
