I was expecting to use the car to run my refrigerator and a few other items via extension cord and V2L adapter (about $100) like Kia/Hyundai cars.
You can do that with a $50-100 inverter, see any of the inverter threads here for examples of doing it. This is far cheaper than any VW produced inverter like they offer in EU only. Bi-di out of the CCS port is not needed for this, and when they ever do offer it, it will be more expensive. Kia is simply using the inverter built into the car, not bi-di.

Yeah that was never promised for any model of ID.4.

At least in Europe, the ID.Buzz can be specced with a normal socket under the rear seat, which is rated for 300W only.

Aand?

That is not, to my knowledge, an ID.4.
And... you ask? Posts in this thread have questioned whether V2L can power a refrigerator with it's cycling high power draw. Yes, it's entirely possible and hopefully we'll be able to do it with our ID.4s before long so we can avoid spoiling a bunch of food during a power outage.

And... you ask?
You quoted me, which usually means you are directly replying to what was quoted. Yet reading my original comment and your reply, I fail to understand what one has to do with the other.

Whatever does your son-in-laws Huyndai and fridge have to do with ID.4.

Maybe with the next version, to be released in Europe in 2026 with deliveries in 2027 and in the US who knows when. To be clear, I have not seen anything to suggest that. VW has not released too many details on the overhaul.

Or maybe with the SSP platform models… in 2029 or whenever they eventually get to it.

Current ID.4:s, meaning original models with 3.x software or the next gen with 4.x/5.x have never been promised to get V2L, and it will never happen.

Whether V2H becomes a viable option - or even enabled in the US - remains to be seen. Currently with one officially supported charger costing 20 % of the price of the car installed ain’t viable.

The point being the 300W limitation of the in-cabin ID.Buzz socket whcih you cited doesn't appear to be a limitation of V2L itself. Hopefully, that will be the case when (if?) we finally get V2L in the ID.4. Does that make sense?

Different system.

Never happening for current models, barring third party solutions not officially supported by VW.

I did not expect the statement in the VW posting "VW will also be able to activate the function for vehicles that have already been delivered as soon as they have also received the ID. Software 3.5 via an update" as being liminted to Europe. We got the 3.5 update, but no "bidirectional charging" per the title of the post.
Cleaver wordplay or deception?

Where does that promise V2L? Nowhere.

You keep referring to V2L, nope, never promised. Even according to you it’s bi-directional CHARGING. That is not V2L.

Since time immorial, there have been differences down to software between EU and US models.

If VWoA doesn’t have a press release or other info, assume N/A.

And would you really pay 10K USD to have V2H? That is the only option offered.

The press release from VW promising bidirectional charging for version 3.5 software was written in English, not German. Is a new potential owner supposed to know that this will only apply to Germany when deciding on a car to buy?

Charging is inherently unidirectional, otherwise it is discharging. The only way to charge in the opposite direction is with a V2L adapter (or built in V2L) into which another vehicle’s EVSE is plugged.

Here’s the Tesla V2L PowerShare Outlet Adapter (120V/20A).

Replace the air compressor here with another EV’s EVSE and you’ll have the “bi” in bi-directional charging.

It only works with the black Gen 3 Mobile Connector, which has the longer plug needed for the deeper port on the Cybertruck (and apparently Hyundai/Kia). It seems it won’t work with the silver mobile connector which I assume was included with Juniper models until the Performance (120V/20A).

Well given that the press release describes a solution implemented in Sweden, no, one should not make the conclusion that it is only available in Germany.
