Didn't need the spacers, though it did take two or three positioning tries to get the vertical placement right so that the plate didn't tilt. I don't recall seeing any rubber bumpers, but I'll take a look for them. Sounds like a good idea to give a bit of protection to the bumper.

Installed the frame tonight to see how it fits - pretty cool, but the angle of the grille means the plate will be slightly tilted. Are you okay with that, or did you get the tilting add-on?

It’s a WIP the stud is a Frankenstein mix they bonded together so there’s no kit number yet. . One of them had been cut so the end result would be the correct length. The tow eye is heftier than the tow eye from my Tiguan. You would need to contact them and I’m sure they can put one together for you as well. I have a silicone plate frame I installed after I mounted the license plate. One caveat is that it’s very close to the passenger side proximity sensor. I needed to adjust the angle of the plate a bit more to keep it out of it’s view. Because it doesn’t interfere with that sensor any more I never bothered to see if the silicone plate frame was extending out just far enough to set it off. The kit comes with everything you need including a multi-wrench for installation/adjustments.

It took more energy to get the dealer to put their drills down and not screw into my bumper.
How did you adjust? Got a pic of the final position? I just installed my platypus and am seeing the same problem.

Don’t know if this is legal in all states and provinces but it seems like it could be interesting as a front plate replacement.

So, my OCD got the best of me and I just ordered the leveller accessory from Sly Brackets ;-)
My plates came today so I installed my front using sly bracket. I was initially skeptical of paying so much but the engineering and quality of kit impressed me and I think it's worth the money.

I initially planned to mount higher but I think I like the minimal overlap with bumper, for now

No leveling kit needed, it's pretty much vertical

I too worry about bracket and bumper damage if someone bumps into me, please post if you find some type of piece to go behind plate as spacer/bumper

Did you ask the VW dealer to not drill any holes in the bumpers?

What do we think? Too low?
Should i raise it so there's a third of the plate overlapping the main bumper?

Also, I measured, marked and levelled and it is spot on... ... ... and my brain will not allow me to see it as level, lol.

Now I just wish I had taken a look at the plate options and gone for a darker base plate, it would have only cost me $10 at the time, but now it will cost me $150+ to update since the stickers and registration are already live.

I ended up centering mine in lower mesh with no overlap. Just above legal height for my state. May change it again but I like it more than having a little overlap. And if someone backs into you at low speed the painted bumper may be spared with damage focused to the mesh part?

My concern about putting it too low is to make sure you’re not reducing airflow into the car‘s air intake.

How about a smoke license plate cover so it'll blend in with the grille?
Took delivery early February said I didn’t want a front plate bracket, NYS requires a front plate, I see at least 10 plus cars a day without one, and no one’s getting ticketed. I put a tow hitch bracket on my Q7 as it also came without a front bracket. Think I am going to mount my front plate to the grill under the bumper. My dealer said it wouldn’t affect air flow into the engines. Any thoughts?
