So I got the 2 IC fronts installed today (still waiting on delivery of the IS system for tweeter and the rear) as I'm planning to do what
@dg4prez updated to.
Here is my experience: I consider myself pretty handy but this was the first time I've taken off panels in a car. The armrest portion was the most difficult by far. On the first door I broke 4 clips and the thin strip that runs along the bottom. The main panel came off easily but my dealer did not have any clips so I used some I ordered on Amazon but they turned out to be a little too long, leaving a gap. I ordered some others while still waiting on dealer order and those should be a little shorter, we'll see how that goes when they get here (hopefully Sunday as I have 2 naked doors).
The second door was much easier since I now had a little experience and only one clip broke. The key for me was making sure to have the armrest panel pulled out enough beginning where
@pro describes in his instructions (my first one I was too timid with it). After that, the rest came off pretty easy (I went along the bottom).
As another poster stated, I had trouble getting the rivets in straight as well as there isn't enough room with my rivet tool and I had a couple that didn't break where they should have, leaving some of the stem attached. The speakers seem to me to still be locked in solid but we'll see how it is after some miles and bumpy roads.
Verdict on speakers: As others have stated, I didn't realize how bad the factory ones where, even with just the 2 fronts done the difference is pretty large. Thoroughly impressed with these little guys even with just a few minute sample (not an audiophile but run a pretty decent KEF LS50 + HSU sub system in our little home theater). Can't wait to hear what the full replacement sounds like.
Thanks to everyone for sharing your knowledge on this, it has been really helpful.
