Often times the max opening of tailgates of CUV/SUV's is adjustable to accommodate shorter drivers (such as my petite wife and daughter). Tailgates with motion activated opening typically more so accommodating. But I've not seen any insight on same. Hopefully soon we'll have some in-person verification.

I am curious to know how high the tailgate lifts when open.
I'm building a carport for the id4, and I would like to be able to open the trunk inside :)
Any clues?

Hi Zurbaran,

I purchased an Austrian ID.4 1st brochure and it arrived in California today and has the dimensions you need.

It states that the height is 1.631 m and 2.168 m with the hatch opened.
2.168 m is the height from the ground to the top of the opened hatch. 2.168 corresponds also with what was listed in a French ID.4 brochure I downloaded. I hope this helps.

Thank you very much! Just what I needed to know!
Merry Christmas!

Do they list accessories for the ID.4 in Austria? I am especially looking for a divider between trunk and passenger space like it was offered by VW for the Tiguan. In Germany there is none (yet).

The Austrian 1st edition brochure for the ID.4 is short, only 19 pages. The standard German brochure for the ID.3 is 40 pages. I’d imagine the accessories would be in the ~40 page brochure for the ID.4 whenever it is available.

Below is a link to the 88 page accessory catalog for all VWs. Since the Tiguan and ID.4 have different forms, they may still be developing the accessory you need.

Marmot defence? That is a pretty extensive list of accessories!

Hello, I'm new here so please be gentle - I'm looking to buy an ID.4 - just wondered regarding dimension-wise - is anyone able to confirm the length from the front dash - all-the-way through to the back, with the rear tail-gate closed - internally?

My reason is I do alot of DIY and wanted to know what the over-all internal size is for carrying wood etc, for my numerous home DIY projects.

I currently have a Golf Mk7 Estate - that can just about accommodate 3m lengths of wood ... ! - I know the ID.4 will be less, but wanted to understand how much shorter it is.

Much appreciated - Thank you.

Hi Luke,

I never saw this measure but looking the last image from VW ID.4 Dimensions Blueprint

I would say 1836+1419-476-476-100=2203 so about 2.2m

I count 10cm from outside to inside of the back and twice the one front wheel to go from center front wheel to end of the dashboard.

Hope this helps
Many Thanks / much appreciated ... (hoping for a minimum of 2.4m - as most Wood DIY products come in that length ;-)

Hoping that the UK lockdown is eased soon, and car dealers are able to get hold of some Demo car's and I can then get to have a look at one in person.

Thanks again.

Welcome!! I think you'll find this a very gentile/gentle forum. ;)

I was initially concerned with this as well as I do a fair amount of woodworking. But I've assured myself that I can get in at least a few 2.4m (8') of standard length lumber.

Heck, at a bit of an angle I can get several "two by fours" as we call them in my wife's Benz GLA and the ID.4 is comparable or even a wee bit longer. I wrap the front of them in a towel however as they almost touch the lower dash.

btw: I'll be raising the rear deck to its higher level so the folded seats are at mostly the same plane throughout.

Thank you ! ... I know this thread is about dimensions (so don't want to go off course

... but just wondered what people (who have seen the ID 4 thought of the interior finish and general build quality) ... I test drove the ID.3 first edition in the UK, and was rather underwhelmed, alot of hard plastic - not the usual soft touch plastic on the VW range - Golf etc.

I've seen plenty of You tube reviews saying the ID.4 has soft touch plastic on the dash, and front door side panels - but just wondered what anyone thought or had experienced.

I'm looking at the Skoda Enyak as well, but having 4 Golf's previously (Hatch's and Estates) I'm sort of drawn to the ID.4 ...

I viewed a US Pro S. The interior finish will feel very familiar to you.

From Erik's response a couple months ago ... which I was searching unbeknownst that he was simul-responding. 😆 The CC is very nice so a very good endorsement.

Note also that the Euro "1st Max" has some nicer materials than our US Pro S if you plan to go that route.

We had to wear gloves during the Seattle area visit. But the soft-touch surfaces all seemed similar to my CC.
Some good comments on materials in this thorough Euro-review.

I did measure this, but forgot it. its one of my upcoming videos, but still need to start with editing.

If I recall it right it was atleast 2.50 maybe 2.60m Distance was From the front center ventilation till tailgatebump[interior side]

EDIT: adding to this: open de ski-hatch and you can have a nice "window" to but all your long stuff without moving too much side to side.

Can you verify what the ground clearance is? It has often been reported to be 8.5 inches, but VW rep at dealership showing said it is 6 inches, which matches Autogefuhl review stating 16cm. To me it didn't look very high.
