Yes, grabbing and holding the rear hatch as it's opening at your desired stop point (must be more than 50% of its travel range) is pretty common on many manufacturer's vehicles with powered assist. They typically provide a somewhat similar process for non-powered as well.

Hey ID.Furkan - don't forget to check the driver's door sill height for FredT Thanks. ;)

Ah, OK, that would be simple. Thank you.

Check that rear hatch height too please. This is an important bit of info. for those who use a garage to house their new vehicle. It is worth knowing to be sure to check your garage height clearance with your garage door open as the overhead door takes away a fair amount of head room. I can't open mine with my current Ford Edge without re-adjusting the hatch opening from the stock setting. You don't want to bang your new vehicle's rear hatch because you were not aware of that possibility. That why it would be good to know how tall the ID.4 hatch gate is when open.

I'm curious if the car has an umbrella pocket. In the big scheme of things it means nothing to me, but it is more a curiosity as I've seen it on older VW's from days gone by.

I don't think

I'm aware the ID.4 doesn't have the "built in umbrella" ... but Skoda's (made in the Czech Republic) - do, they also have built in ice-scrapers etc. Skoka are part of the VW group, I think all ID.4 (European/UK models) come with - Warning Triangle and Hi-Viz Vest.

I was having lots of fun with the snow here. Just forgot it.
so things to measure:
  1. Ground clearance
  2. Sill height/entry height
  3. Tailgate full open heigt
Do you guys want to order any more heights/measurements? will check them in 12 or 20 hours

Thanks for that! Did you look over your car closely to check on panel fitment and overall paint quality? If so, what do you think?

It's a german car. What ya think? It's top notch.
But doesn't mean it's flawless, saw 1 case where the bonnet wasn't aligned, but that is the single thing I remember, but was also for a ID.3.

Personally I have some moisture in my tailgate lightunit or its a breathing unit, currently humidity is very high overhere.. That's it, so maybe it will be a warranty thing

Im currently on my 19 inch wheels, so with 20/21 it could be alittle higher.
  1. Ground clearance - measured 18 cm [7.08 in], no one is inside, lets say 16cm [6.3 in] is right height.
  2. Sill height/entry height - measured 46 cm [18.11 in]
  3. Tailgate full open heigt - Measured 220 cm [86.61 in], could be 5 cm higher to be safe. total 225 cm / 88.58 in

Suspension compressed down from 18cm [7.08"] to 16cm [6.3"] upon driver entry? That's a lot of driver to move it down 2cm [~3/4"]. 😆 (I know, just your guesstimate)

Thanks for taking the time to do this ID.Furkan. We with petite family members especially appreciate it! ;)

In theory wheel size should not be a factor in ride height as typically the larger wheels have tires with shorter sidewall profiles. Maintaining consistency is especially important with TPMS that is MMI-ABS calculated.

if you look it from the back the wishbones are lower then the batterypack. so for the majority of the car it can be 18cm, but the wishbones are definitely lower with 1/2 cm.

Yeah, I was just teasing you in the way you worded it that suggested (to me) that the vehicle was 2cm lower upon a driver getting into it. :ROFLMAO:

There are always unsprung wheel suspension components that are lower/lowest. Had to watch that on many Jeeps when off-road. Ford even more so.

So basically the ground clearance for the bulk of the vehicle is 18cm [7.08"] which is pretty much as anticipated.

Thanks again.

By way of comparison, my wife's 2018 GLA 250 CUV (it became a full SUV MY2020) vs. ID.4:

Ground clearance 22.23cm [8.75 in] ID.4 = 18 cm [7.08 in]
Sill height 45cm [17.75 in] ID.4 = 46 cm [18.11 in]

My wife is 1.524M tall [5'] and she has no problem getting into her GLA. The sill clearance was of course one of her prime considerations.

It's actually surprising that the GLA has more ground clearance yet a lower sill by my numbers, when compared to ID.Furkan's ID.4 numbers. But only by 1cm [a little more than 1/2 in].

It's simple tho. 1 needs to hide their batteries [around 13-15 cm in height including protection]
other one needs space for the exhaust and perhaps drivetrain if awd/rwd.

Do the back seats fold flat? I see photos that they do, and some that they don't. If not, approximately what angle is the slant?

Interesting interview with the interior designer of the ID4.
