Put yourself into VW"s shoes. It would be truly silly not to bring a couple of those Chinese builds over to Europe and North America and test them - whatever testing means in the context, driving, focus groups, inside opinion gathering, whatever. It might not ever mean much or become a thing, but not testing is leaving opportunities on the table.

I do hope that any non-Chinese version will simplify and streamline the design to the ID4 level. Front and back undersides of the pictured vehicle are truly ugly.

I need this car. Why doesn’t VW sell it in the US? Seriously.

If I could get it as an AWD with under 7 seconds 0-60, I would be all over it. Would be nice to have it do 0-60 in under 6 seconds, but they would have to put in more powerful motors to achieve it. But even with the same motors as the ID.4, if the ID.6 could do 0-60 under 7 seconds, it would be acceptable to me.

The ID.4 is just not big enough.

The Chinese market has long appreciated more rear seat volume. The Audi A8L ('L' for long) was initially developed for their market and then became popular in the USA upon release, especially by realtors and the like to convey clients.

Quite conceivable therefore that a "stretched" ID.4 -> ID.6 would be desired by a segment of USA buyers. After all the Tiguan 3-row option is now popular with many. My daughter-in-law now drives a 3-row Subaru as it's not just about her two children but also the Little League/Soccer friends. ;)

The car my ID.4 replaced was a 2016 Volvo S60 Inscription. More than just a fancy badge, the Inscription S60 variant of that vintage was the first Chinese-built mainline car to be sold in the US. It was 3" longer than the standard Swedish-built S60s, with about 3½ more rear seat leg room, for transporting adults, just like the scenario you describe. My wife still has a fondness for that car. Perhaps we don't feel like the ID.4 infotainment is behind the times because of the prior 5 years with a car that sported a telephone keypad button layout on the center stack, underneath a 7" screen.

Welcome to the forum!

Good to hear, especially as again very conceivable the longer ID.6 makes its way to the USA at some point (TN* factory?).

When we didn't know much about the ID.4 I was hoping that it would be about the length of the original Tiguan, but then it turned out to be only slightly shorter than the current model. But similarly given the ID.4's exceptional maneuverability and turning radius I don't really notice the additional length compared to driving my wife's shorter Benz GLA pre-2020 CUV.

I typically like shorter CUV's (heck, I can't usually even be bothered to spell out the longer Chattanooga*) but can understand other's needs for a longer configuration.
